“The Rest of Her Life” by Steve Yarbrough was a rather difficult read. After finishing the text, I found myself trying to understand what happened in the story. The back and forth nature of the stories timeline makes it a bit hard to keep track of when scenes take place, and as a result what the overall plot is. Going back and taking a look at the story a second time though yielded a somewhat better understanding of it. Dee Ann goes through a lot of innocence following her mother's murder, at the hands of her father. With this event, her life is forever changed.
The concept of a tragic hero can also be applied to real-life individuals. For example, Demi Lovato is a perfect example of a modern day tragic hero. Lovato starts out as someone who is common in social status but becomes noble in character. Further, Demi Lovato worked hard for her career in music, amidst all of the hate she received from others. The setting of which Demi Lovato grew up in was one of loving family members, but also one of hateful peers that didn’t respect her for who she was. When, the harsh words Lovato received overthrew the love that was there, she became swept up in the whirlwind. Therefore, her tragic flaw that ultimately leads to her suffering is her lack of self confidence when faced with opposing forces. For the modern tragic hero, the downfall occurs when her situation with bullies spiteful words started to build up inside of her until she finally can not take it anymore. For instance, Demi’s tyrants would call her “fat”, she believed them, and would soon after develop unhealthy eating disorders, anorexia, bulimia, and so much more in the future. After Demi Lovato had done so much self harm, Lovato undergoes recognition, a shift from ignorance about her own
In the film Heathers social behavior, props and lighting influences our attention to the film and shapes our feelings about the characters. Teenagers in Westerburg High School where social cliques are exhibited makeup the distinction amongst its students. For example, Heather “one” is the queen bee and she “rules” the school. Her character is revealed when she tells Veronica to write a horny note that is placed on Martha “Dumptruck” Dunnstock’s tray. She is then ridiculed when she walks up to the jock who supposedly wrote the note to her by his hysterical laughter when reading “his” note. This shapes our feelings about her thinking of her as an outrageous character, however she is not the only one with a “dark” character.
Catherine’s selfishness is a tragic flaw and the source of all the pain and sufferings in Wuthering heights.
The person I consider to be an influential hero is Moira Smith. I refer to Moira Smith as a hero because she saved many strangers’ lives. Her life was dedicated to saving citizens from disasters that had occurred. Moira had even saved victims in exchange for her own life. Most people cannot do such a selfless thing as to risk their life to save others’. Although Smith could have chosen any career, she decided to be a police officer so she could help people in need. Moira jumped right into action during two huge disasters: a subway crash at the Union Square, and 9/11.On August 27th, 1991 there was a tragic subway crash at Union Square. Moira helped out during that subway crash. However, Moira is better known for her heroic actions on September

Ruby Bridges was born as an outsider because of her race, and she didn’t have the privileges that most girls her age had. Bridges grew up in a time where blacks were considered entirely different from everyone around them. White people believed that blacks don’t deserve the certain rights that they had and that they were a lower class than them just because of color (Britannica). Bridges father was hesitant of sending Bridges to an all-white school when she got the acceptance letter because he knew that countless people would be outside the school protesting offensive and repulsive words directly at her (Biography). But her mother believed that this was the right thing to do and let her go. Almost every day of her kindergarten days, the scenes

In his article, Listening to Guinevere: Female Agency and the Politics of Chivalry in Tennyson’s Idylls, Stephen Ahern examines the treatment of women in the poems, specifically the character of Guinevere in relation to her male counterpart Arthur, and provides a complex view of Tennyson’s underlying message as a critique on the Victorian social constructs of his time rather than a simple representation of it. Ahern builds a solid argument for Guinevere’s treatment as the victim in the story ultimately signifying that she was being used as a model of the wrongs of the standard Victorian expectation of femininity. This complex analysis of the text gives a different, more modern perspective of the poems. The key features of his argument cite
Would you help a group of people who could put you and your family in danger of death and torture? When she had the option of joining ‘the underground’, a string of operations set to help the Jews and to help anyone involved with the Jews, Corrie agreed, but had she had known what was going to happen up ahead would she have chosen to join and help the underground which had cost Corrie her sister’s life and her father’s? If Corrie had had these struggles with should I or should I not, the ‘would not’ side would
