In the article, Heroic Firefighter’s Story, published by ABC News, the author focuses on the story of a particular firefighter who risked and lost his own life in attempt to rescue victims stuck inside the World Trade Center during 9/11, Timothy Stockpole. The article first introduces us to Stockpole by presenting a background of him, describing a life-threatening incident he first had while stuck in a burning house 3 years before his actual death. Then, it continues to explain what happened to him as he attended his (unknowingly) last day of work, while going into detail about what happened soon after his death, such as the fact that 10,000 people showed up at his funeral. The tone of this article could be described as melancholic, because
I t has been 145 years since one of today’s biggest cities was burned to the ground. One normal day in the city of Chicago, a fire started in the O’ Leary’s barn on October 8th, 1871. There was dry weather and most of the city was made from wood. With the wood, and the dry, windy weather, the city was very flammable. Once the fire started, it spread to the whole city.
The bunkhouse has a very unique atmosphere. For example, the walls are unpainted, the three walls are small, and the beds have little apple boxes for personal belongings. Though it seems when someone walks through the door a different feeling appears in the room. For example, when Curley walks in it feels as if the atmosphere is nasty and troublesome. When Curley 's wife walks in it feels as if there is an inconvenience or a disturbance throughout the house.
As Barbara states, “Room 133 contains a bed, a chair, a chest of drawers, and a TV fastened to the wall… But the real problems are all window- and door related: the single small window has no screen, and the room has no AC or
Ginny stared at the little cabin she’d been given. She could hardly imagine spending three months into this little room. Inside was a small bed –more of a cot really- pushed up against one wall. On the other wall there was a small desk and chair.
Emma Powers Ms. Logan English 10-B 16 November 2015 The Burning Courage Throughout one’s lifetime, they face many situations in which their stomach drops and a flash of fear can be seen glazing their eyes. In the few seconds it takes for this fear to pass throughout the whole body; a new feeling forms like a fire spreading heat to the surrounding area. That is courage.
The room; lying there for years at a time. Crumbled, cluttered, clothing lay upon the nail polish covered carpet. Neatly organized posters, artwork, and cd’s hang gently on the blank white wall, creating emphasis on what she likes. Pictures of friends and family taped in a heart formation beside her bed ; reminding her that without them her heart would be broken.
Firefighter Flashlights Firefighters all over the world depend on several tools to fight fires, keep themselves safe, and protect others from harm. One of the tools they depend on is their flashlight. Firefighter flashlights must meet the standards that are required to do their jobs. The light output must be enough for them to be able to see through thick smoke, and they must hold up under high temperatures. If not, it could jeopardize their safety and the safety of others.
“We should go to that new burger joint that opened up the other day.” Jan suggested. “Smash Burger” Ariana replied. “Yeah sounds good.” “Is everyone okay with that?”
First Responders put their life on the line for innocent people everyday. They are the first ones to arrive on scene bring help or supplies to those in need. Many people do not realize the amount of stress that being a first responder can put on a person.
The old plywood floor welcomed us as we walked into the the eight foot by seven foot shed. The room had been converted from a small shed for ice fishing. Three holes had been drilled along each side, with one hole centered on the back wall. When I took a seat on a black folding chair in the back right corner, my friend Carter sat down in the back left corner. As we dropped our lines into the holes, Carter made a joke, "Dude, I bet one of us will get a 20 incher today.
I really didn 't understand why the people in my life started to treat me way better now that they knew i had cancer. If only they had cared about me like this when i wasnt sick. I woke up this morning feeling perfectly fine, i mean after all i had been going to chemotherapy for the past 4 months, but I felt fine, even though i wasnt. " How do you feel? Do you need any of your medicines?"
Fire fighting Many people in my life are firefighters. My Grandpa, he was a firefighter when my mom was a little girl. I remember her always telling me about her hearing his pager go off at night and her asking to go with him.
The worst feeling in the world is regret. In order to be the best person, I could possibly be must take risks and be different from the average. I would hate to be in my older years and no longer have the opportunity to do things I hesitated during my youth. Whenever I make mistakes I need to learn on how I could improve next time. Also, the things I choose to take on, I should take on with 100% rather than half-ass.
