The poem continues to describe how his "face turned pale, a deadly pale" probably at the realization that this love could not be returned as the speaker continued to say "when she looked what could I ail' which signifies the deep emotional pain that he feels when he finds out that she will not love him back. It starts off describing the exuberating pain of watching the one you love with someone else. "Your heart is being brutally yanked out and shredded into a million tiny pieces" describes the extremity of the torture one undergoes when the person they love gets together with someone else. The love one receives from them is merely a brotherly sisterly kind of love and nothing hurts more than being trapped in the friend zone. "When you spot them together, and they appear to be on cloud nine, it's almost bittersweet because you want nothing more than happiness for them but simultaneously you want to be the reason behind their joyful smile" (line 8) the speaker conveys how painful it is to see whom they wish were theirs happy with someone else. The speaker goes on to say to portray how brutal it is to watch the one you love so much , be in love with someone else and you can do nothing more than pretend you're happy for them and that you are perfectly alright. The speaker concludes by saying that one cannot just simply cry and sulk over this painful situation but you must endure the suffering and push past it to aim to your happiness and well being. Every day, we hear the term ‘love’ in several different situations. So, what is love? According to Shakespeare, in sonnet 116 - The first quatrain describes love as an unchangeable force in the lines “Love is not love / Which alters when it alteration finds, / Or bends with the remover to remove: / O no! it is an ever-fixed mark.” Shakespeare enforces the fact that true love always perseveres, no matter what it’s up against by using the metaphor, “That looks on tempests and is never shaken” in the second quatrain.
The love is categorized as a deeming and damning affection therefore mastering the hardship of what love is or is perceived to be. Looking at the first stanza, one is able to notice that it starts off very romantically. In line 1 the poet, Cynthia Zarin, refers to her man as ‘My heart’ and ‘my dove’. ‘My heart’ indicates how much the poet’s lover means to her as a heart is sustenance for life. The poet also makes it clear that the love is pure in line 1 by referring to her lover as
In stanza two, she goes on to compare the waves of the sea to “an iron gate”, as both are strong, dependable, and always in constant motion. This is for her to better her mental, emotional, and even spiritual health in a better environment. Moving on, the poet mentions “My darling” in line nine, alluding to the fact that she has somebody to lean on, a significant other or close friend, whom she has plans to enjoy her life with. This is yet another drastic shift, as before, it was implied that the speaker was entirely alone, having to fake happiness around others, yet here it is said that the both of them are supposedly healing together mentally. In the fourth stanza, line thirteen, she questions the dead, and what happens to them: “And what of the dead?”
Overall, both Tennyson and Rostand use figurative language plus the obstacles in their writing to point out that love is painful, but that there
On the first pass I understood that it was about illness and love, but did not notice how intense they were until after reading it again. What seemed like a pretty easy poem to understand became a love letter to decipher. Oliver wrote this poem for her love while he or she was having breathing treatments. She is speaking to a love who is not revealed. No one replies to her and she does not tell us if her love is a man or woman.
What is love? The definition of love is,”A profound tender, passionate affection for another person.” In an opinion of many, love is something that all living things have and need. In the novel Anthem by Ayn Rand, everyone has been changed and they do not know what is it like to love. But in Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, they do have love and families.
(lines 3 and 4) it shows that time is carrying us until our lovers meet, the up until now. The poem goes on to say, “Personal events will become interesting again,” (line 5) and gives more examples in the following lives of how love can brighten our lives again. When lovers separate, it becomes a matter of time again. The line, “The desolation of lovers is the same: that enormous emptiness carved out of such tiny beings as we are ask to be filled; the need for the new love is faithfulness to the old.” (lines 11- 15) relates in this idea that the separation of lovers is the same as our individual emptiness asking to be filled, that we must stay true to the old for new things in our life.
Love is a means of engaging with the world. When this love is ripped from us, we fall to despair and grief. Through despair and grief, moreover, we can have a means to define true happiness. We cannot fully understand the light without a taste of darkness. We all need a place where we can let down our guard and fall apart because of love.
The speaker is in a very deep depression and he wants the world around him to match. Without his love, he sees the world as too colorful and wants it to be like him. “Maybe then, I’ll fade away/And not have to face the facts/ It’s easy facing up/When your whole world is black”(3.5-8). He wants to fade away because he doesn’t want to face the fact that his partner is dead.

Bradstreet gives us an insight to her and her husband’s relationship and how deep and strong their love has become. She uses hyperbole and biblical allusions to convey how great their love is.
In this song, the speaker is portrayed as a man who is hurting from his past relationship and so he tries to figure out what made things change and where they went wrong. Throughout the song the speaker reflects on how he was feeling while they were still together and now that they are apart. The song was written as a message to the antagonist, the woman that the speaker loved, and now, is no longer with; he wants answers and he wants her to know how he feels and just how much she hurt him. The speaker lets us know that the pain he is feeling from this broken love of theirs is internal by stating, “To hear that tears me up inside and to see you cuts me like a knife” (Poison).
