1. INTRODUCTION
The transition from school to university is seen as challenging task that is experienced by most school leavers. The different environment and culture could come as a shock to most learners. University helps prepare learners for life in the working world, through its different pressures and obstacles in which learners need to develop tactics to overcome. This report is directed to grade twelve learners and discuss transitional issues amongst first year learners in university. It will concentrate on cultural issues such as adapting to new culture, cultural shock, social support and mental isolation; as well as student behaviours in regards to motivation, time management and academic hassles; and will be followed by recommendations on how to

University life provides more freedom and independence; this allows learners to take on more responsibility, whereas learners still in school are consistently monitored on their progress. Learners are not used to the freedom and end up abusing this responsibility.
2.2 CULTURAL SHOCK
“You get challenges that you never faced in high school. It’s like a whole a schooling environment. Learners often find it difficult to fathom problems encountered and they then lack forming an effective solution.
2.3 SOCIAL SUPPORT
As stated by Levy and Treacey (2015, p22) “The social aspect of university was not always perceived as positive.” Some learners may be socially handicapped in comparison to others. Interacting and socialising may be awkward and a painful experience during the first couple weeks of university, this makes the transition even more challenging than it should be. This ends up discouraging and disappointing learners.
2.4 MENTAL
The College Fear Factor was written by author Rebecca D. Cox, which describes the struggles that students face entering their first year in college. Many students all share similar feelings and experiences about their first day. Others share their fears about current courses, such as math and writing. Throughout the chapter, Cox interviews students and documents their reactions to challenging situations. Many students right out of high school express that their high school courses prepared them for the course work ahead.
Alfred Lubrano the author of “the shock of Education: How college Corrupts” explains the differences and difficulties of what students can go through while they are in college. Lubrano says that when a student arrives at college, they lose their connection to their families. This is due to the extreme workload put on the student by the professors they don’t have the time to really chat with their parents like they used to when they lived at home. Also if there is an enormous distance gap where the students go to college and where their parents live it may create that sense like they don’t know each other anymore. I agree do with Alfred that college students change once they go to college they start grow apart from their families.
The decision to attend college immediately after high school is one of the many challenges high schoolers face upon graduating. There are several reasons why that attending college promptly after graduation is a good idea. It is more beneficial than waiting because one will already have the drive to continue on with school rather than waiting, one will also graduate sooner which in turn will result in better job opportunities, and one is more likely to apply one’s high school knowledge. By attending college immediately after high school, one is more like to continue with one’s momentum. If one stops and waits to return to school, one would lose that drive to challenge that higher education.
Socialization becomes much easier in college. In college, there are sororities, fraternities, and many other small communities. Many may go for a socialization status, just to say they are attending. Others believe that college is where they will find themselves. College is a place to obtain a
Finding motivation to attend college is easy, keeping the motivation to finish is the difficult part. I decided to enroll in college to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Business with a concentration in Finance. I hope that the degree will give me the opportunity to apply for a better position within the organization that I currently work for. A secondary goal of returning to school is to demonstrate to my son that attending college is required for many jobs and that returning to school as an adult has various difficult challenges. I have been working for the past nine years as an Assistant Financial Officer and am highly competent at my job.
Attending college right after high school or waiting to attend has no right or wrong answer. It would depend on the individual situation. It not only will have to do with some may not being academically prepared to attend college but not having the financial resources necessary to enroll. I went to college right away, my husband worked for about ten years out of high school before deciding to attend college. If you can transition well to a college environment right out of high school, then that might be the path for you.
It has taken many years for people in society to break out of the norms and expectations of how to grow up and live in the world. A huge factor in this “revolution”: attending college. Whether it is taking a gap year to discover the world and the waiting opportunities, or simply running with it all after high school to work, attending college isn’t considered a given anymore. Now not all cases are the same for every person, therefore they can only decide what is the best path for them after high school. Still, the benefits of a being a college graduate will never be diminished.
Children and adolescents are faced with developmental tasks at many points as they grow up, but there are a few stages in life when young people meet multiple challenges all at once. The transition from high school to college is one of those critical developmental periods. It is an exciting time that typically leads to considerable gains in maturity, but it is also a time during which many adolescents experience difficulties. This transition is an important event for families as well, because the family unit must navigate significant changes in relationships between family members. Again, although most families manage the transition well, it is quite common that they experience difficulties along the way.
For many people, higher education is needed as they pursue their desired career paths. However, the same seven deadly sins of lust, gluttony, envy, greed, anger, sloth, and pride that keep one unhappy and unmotivated in everyday life, even if one does not realize these are the source of their unhappiness, can also be applied even more specifically to students. Most will struggle with at least one of these areas, if not all of them, in their academic journey. Being aware of the common potential downfalls, though, can better set up a student opportunities to overcome them. This, in turn, will help them in overcoming obstacles in their life after school as well.

INTRODUCTION Most of the people consider that being a student is the most enjoyable and stress free part of our life. This is the stage where we are exploring different things in our environment. Being influenced by someone in good or in bad things. This is the stage wherein we have a lot of ambition or goals, that push our limits in order to achieve it in the future.
Everyone involved in our life has helped raise and teach us about almost everything as they all played a role in our lives. But how exactly did they play a role in our lives? In my opinion, they educated us on things that our time in school did not. In school, they teach us the same four subjects each year: English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. However, they are not teaching us things that we would have to learn from experience later in our lives.

My high school experience was a long, frustrating learning experience. I didn’t know what to expect, or what I was getting myself into. Nobody gave me the tools to understand the main focus of each year. I am going to give you tips and advice on how to succeed in high school. By the time you’ve finished high school, you’ve been a student for over 12 years, which means that you haven’t really experienced the real world yet.
