Race has a strong influence on an individual’s life. One way that race influences an individual’s life is that it can separate us from each other. For example, in “Fitting In,” by Timothy D. Prott, esq., the speaker talks about how race pushes us away from each other when he stated,”Race is just a word. / Simply a word. / Not a barrier to be crossed”(64-66). Race is what's separating us apart, it’s a barrier that shouldn’t be there. If racism never existed, a lot of the things horrible things in the past wouldn’t have happened and the world would be a more peaceful place, but instead it separated us by our races and now we have to find a way to break this barrier.
