The most common writing in school are essays or research papers. We need to do our essays with formal English. Always having good arguments, claims, and evidence. In order to compose a good essay it is important to have a good argument and doing many research to have valid and legitimate evidence. Throughout my education, I had to do many essays.
It is essential to captures the reader 's interest and this will be done by finding how to well write a thesis sentence that will want the readers to keep reading and find out more about the thesis. In “Does Texting Affect Writing?”, Cullington used voice markers to demonstrate what others had to say about texting. For the reader, the voice markers help to integrate quotes of what others stated connecting it back to the argument. This made the text run smoothly for the reader and not lose focus. “To avoid confusion in your own writing, make sure that at every point your reader can clearly tell who is saying what” (71).

As in professional writing, the audience defines this style of writing, however, academic writing targets a different audience than professional writing. The audience is not as diverse so this type of writing can take on a more formal style using specific terminology, more details, and longer explanations.
Gerald Graff began his career as a teacher before becoming an author focused on critical theory. “Disliking Books at an Early Age” is one of his publications that focuses on the teaching of critical theory. Graff’s argument is that students should be introduced to theory early in academics because a pure reading experience is impossible. Every person brings their own experiences and questions to a text that influences it. Therefore, literary theory gives them a scholarly way to shape their readings and develop the level of “intellectualspeak” that colleges seem to require, which teaches them the skills needed to discuss literature and add to the scholarly conversation.

By consistently keeping this organizational technique the author demonstrates his elevated writing ability and effectively keeps his main point structured coupled with concise information backed by his studies. Being proper and always having a college level academic tone when writing was something that was very important. In addition, using slang or other unfamiliar terms could make an audience confused, leading to a very messy paper.
