Personal Statement I come from a large family with relatives from a little ranch in Chihuahua, Mexico. Many of which have never made it past grade school. Mainly due to their mother, my grandma, she had fallen very ill. Due to her condition and lack of money my aunts and uncles dropped out of school to work and help pay for her medication and medical expenses. The older siblings had to take care of the younger siblings.

I believe that outstanding teachers are passionate, inspired, creative, compassionate, patient and understanding.
Personal Statement for NQT Year I have been lucky enough to have been taught by some truly inspirational teachers and am aware of the effect they have had on my life and the choices I have made subsequently. My own passion for working with young children extends from my desire to emulate these role models and perform the same inspirational function in the lives of my students. It is becoming an active strategy in many therapeutic fields to be used to help with prevention, health promotion, and encouraging individuals to make a change for the better (Clark, 2013). Wellness coaching is based off positive psychology to help motivate and help people to reach their goals in their health (Collins, 2009). Wellness coaching focuses on the individual’s well-being and overall health by giving the individual support, motivation, and goals to get to where the individual wants to be (Grodzki & Allen, 2005). Wellness coaches are trained to help individuals to work towards his her goals that are focused on wellness and physical health (Nelson & Shckley, 2013).
Mindfulness meditation has been described ‘as the awareness that comes from paying attention to the present moment experience in a purposeful and non-judgmental manner’ (Bishop et al., 2004 cited in Brown, Bravo, Roos, & Pearson, 2014 p. 1020). Pearson, Brown, Bravo and Witkiewitz (2015) suggest there are five important features of mindfulness when practising such as focussing one’s attention to the present and avoiding distractions, non-judgmentally experiencing thoughts, non-reactivity to thoughts, labelling experiences and simply observing thoughts/feelings. Being a teacher is a journey that has much to do with learning about yourself and being aware that what happens in your classroom reflects only on how are you with yourself. Teachers are not conscious that they project into students, and that affects how things go in the classroom. I believe the first characteristic of a good teacher is that he/ she is always willing to analyze his/her teaching performance. Second the teacher is humble enough to receive input about the development and application of techniques, learning from it and improving.
