The Sunshine State, as Florida is known, is a very social state. Sunny days coupled with proximity to beaches and other leisure activities draws people out of their houses and encourages social interaction. Florida's physical geography and warm weather impacts its human geography. Specifically, the warm climate promotes socializing and recreation.
With 230 days of sunshine a year, the warm weather in Florida encourages people to leave their homes and spend time together outdoors. Given the year round balmy temperature, it is no surprise that Florida is one of the most popular places for Americans to retire. Sunny days and sandy beaches are well-known perks of the Florida lifestyle. Golf, fishing, pickle ball, tennis, surfing, and walks on the beach, are among the many leisure activities that can be enjoyed almost year round. Florida’s natural beauty including coral reefs, inland freshwater lakes, rivers, streams, and springs have created a thriving culture of leisure possibilities and opportunities for inhabitants to connect with each other. Its relatively flat landscape has made it very easy to build golf courses there as well. Florida is also home to beautiful parks and wildlife preserves that make it an ideal destination to visit. One of the most most popular reasons people are drawn to Florida is because of its endless sandy beaches. Young and older people love beach life. From surfing to swimming to long leisurely strolls on the beach, there is something for everyone. Beach towns that line the Florida coastline thrive economically because they are such popular destinations for residents and visitors. The warm climate also attracts visitors from all over the world to theme parks, such as Walt Disney World and Universal Studios.
