In the book Old School by Tobias Wolff there are examples of where Tobias is a not so innocent boy. He is often times a trouble-maker and very rowdy. However, there is a passage in the book the hints at otherwise. Deep down Tobias is more innocent than his antics lead on.

English 10 P3 Shonbom Soleil Johnson Authenticity in A Silent Peace In the novel A Silent Peace by John Knowles, I believe that neither of the boys are entirely genuine because Finny is manipulative, and Gene villanizes Finny and sees him as an opponent instead of a friend; however, Finny is more genuine than Gene because he always believes in him and saw him as a true friend. From the start of the novel, Finny is shown to be popular amongst the staff and students at Devon due to the fact that he is naturally charismatic and charming. He knows how to flatter teachers and students alike and can lie without raising the slightest suspicion. At first glance, he may seem like a genuinely kind boy, but the people closest to him, like Gene, can see through him.

A Long Way Gone is an autobiography that shows his younger days and the transition of him turning into a child solider. In the story the military uses tactics to manipulate the boys such as anger, drugs, and fear to transform the boys into being child soldiers. The military use anger to manipulate the boys by making the boys blame the rebels for everything “ Visualize the banana tree as the enemy, the rebels who killed your parent your family and those who are responsible for everything that happened to you” (112). With all the built up anger that the boys have it was easy for them to manipulate them because with the loss of their family and friends they already hate the rebels and having them stabbing the banana tree was a way for them to
Oscar Wilde once wrote: “Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth,”. I think this quote is trying to say that when you give someone a mask, they will tell you anything more openly. This will happen because no one knows who is truly hiding behind the mask. Also, what you say will not be judged as harshly by the people you know since they don’t have any thoughts about you before hand since it is anonymous.

Ma’s encounter with Mr Peacock was one of the many hardships faced in 1919. This represents the hardships of women back then.

John C. Maxwell claimed, "There are two kinds of pride, both good and bad. ' Good pride' represents our dignity and self-respect. ' Bad pride' is the deadly sin of superiority that reeks of conceit and arrogance. " The fine line that exists between these two types of pride is one easily crossed, and in the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a boy named Jack does just that. The novel takes place on an uninhabited island, where a group of boys have become stranded.
Hagar, in the end, died of a broken heart, left behind and unloved by a man obsessed with his own freedom: “[Milkman] had left her. While he dreamt of flying, Hagar was dying” (332). While Morrison uses the motif of flight to illustrate escape of oppression, she also shows the effects on the women that are left behind, forgotten for a man’s ideas of personal
