Reflecting on the past seven weeks I have acquired countless knowledge, which I will use to further strengthen my profession as an Advanced Practice Nurse. The course allowed me to think beyond my current practice knowledge and acquired innovative ways to evaluate the situation at hand. The learning objective in program outcome four helps set standards that I will use to guide my clinical practice to meet various healthcare needs. Using the case studies has helped to further enhance my knowledge on disease physiological state, using differential diagnosis, disease manifestations, and clinical presentation. It has also taught me the skills on how to differentiate between similar diagnoses to properly identify the problem and treat the patients.
I encouraged new ideas- such as finding easier ways to improve fundraising- into meetings that would be beneficial to my class. I have set an example for my class by aiding with the pep rally-as well as participating in it- and helping to organize the Sophomore Semi. Being able to lead in these activities gave me a
Objective One During my clinical day three, I demonstrated entry-level competence in professional nursing practice in caring for patients with multiple and/or complex unmet human needs. I addressed safety needs, safety in medication administration, effective communication, and surveillance for my patients. First, I addressed safety needs my ensuring the appropriate safety measures were implemented for the patients. Some of the safety measures included, wearing non-skid socks, wearing a yellow armband which indicated fall risk, keeping the bed in lowest position, two side rails up, bed locked, and the call light within reach.
It is therefore, of great importance that the medical professional in charge of a given patient, in this case a TKA patient follow all the five models of evidence based practice. This will ensure that patients get quality care while at the same time the professionals get to improve their experiences(“EBP in Nursing,” n.d.). It is important that medical practitioners gather enough info about the patient they are dealing with especially in the “ask” model. This will enable them come up with the best care and also aid in guiding them on what information they are to research on.
In the leadership in care delivery course, we were assigned to a hospital to perform clinical hours and provide care to four patients. Additionally, the purpose of this paper is to explain and provide examples on how our patient care included the concepts of Quality and Safety Education for Nursing (QSEN) competencies, delegation, handoff reporting, and a reflection of the clinical experience. Quality and Safety Education for Nursing (QSEN) Competencies QSEN consists of six competencies: patient centered care, quality improvement, teamwork and collaboration, safety, informatics, and evidence based practice. To provide patient-centered care, I had to educate the patient when administering medications on why the patient was taking the medication and side effects. Care had to be individualized with each patient and it included providing respect with his or her decisions in their care.
a. This portfolio shows the educational journey through the BSN program at Western Governors University(WGU). The curriculum at WGU was very challenging, nonetheless it prepared me to become a safe and effective nurse. The BSN curriculum provided avenues to keep me up to date with safe practices and learn how to master therapeutic communication. WGU also helped me sharpen my critical thinking skills in order to make decisions quickly and provide safe and effective care to patients. As the result of my training, I am ready to embark in the field of nursing and do my best to make a difference in my patients lives.
In the FD2 essays is where I had to do the most adjustments. Overall, I had a good central and sub claim, but I needed to fix my development, analysis, and organization. For the organization the professor said, “Need to connect concept of protesting to central claim.” I try to apply this feedback by trying to explain how the reaction that police has towards protest of blacks and whites is completely different. I explain how when whites protest the police just waited until the whole protest ease down, but when blacks protest police immediately use force and aggression to stop them.
“More highly educated nursing workforce is critical to meeting the nation’s nursing needs and delivering safe, effective patient care….. Without a more educated nursing workforce, the nation’s health will be further at risk (Tri-council for Nursing, 2010).” As the acuity of the patient increases daily, so is the need for increases of higher education for nurses. The factor of increasing complexity of patient health require higher education for the liability of safe practice, thus is an agreeable requirement for employers to place upon the employees. Acquiring a bachelor’s degree is only an improvement for everyone.
My knowledge in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) continues to expand as I progress through the DNP program. The knowledge I have attained while in the study of the DNP I and DNP II is priceless. For example, recognizing stakeholders and utilizing networking has helped me to progress on my DNP project (Gokenbach, 2012). I also have a better understanding as well as the purpose of a DNP project. My mentors have been great in directing me in remaining on the right track.
Before performing any procedure, I would explain what I am going to do and ask for their permission every time. 5. If you were planning the care of this patient write one priority nursing diagnosis, with a patient goal, and interventions, that would address the safety needs of
Finally, it will explain the importance of ethics in communication and how patient safety is influenced by good or bad team communication. The first method of communication is mutual respect. The patient and clinician have a partnership based on trust. The patient has respect for the clinician 's experience and the clinician has respect for the patient 's wishes, needs, concerns and builds on past experience to meet immediate needs. (Paget, 2011).
When I was a resident for FSSP, my RA put on a program called the 7th Annual Polar Dip. Because of this, one of the things I was most excited about to be an RA for FSSP was to put on the 9th Annual San Nicolas Polar Dip! San Nicolas residents and I marched to Campus Point at 9pm at night, where we then preceded to charge into the ocean together. They then splashed each other with water guns and bounced a bunch of beach balls in the cold water. The event ended with everyone gathering together in the water and chanting an improvised OLÉ cheer with a finishing “U-C-S-B”.
The goal is to improve the health and safety of patient while also providing care in a cost-effective manner to improve the outcome for both the patient and the health care system at large. According to Melyn and Fineout-overholt(2005)Evidence-based practice should be a problem-solving approach to clinical practice that integrates a systematic search for critical appraisal of the most relevant evidence to answer a burning clinical question.
Describe the duties of the professional nurse in this case with Mr. Cole As a nurse we are supposed to have compassion and build a rapport with our patients but we must uphold our ethical principles when it comes to this dilemma. As for analyzing this situation and coming to a decision I would use the nursing process since it provides a helpful mechanism for finding solutions to ethical dilemmas. (Whitehead 2007). I would assess the situation and ask myself about the medical facts, psychosocial facts as well as cultural beliefs, patients’ wishes and what values are in conflict. I would then move on to planning and make sure that everyone is involved during this stage and continue on down the line with the nursing process.
Therefore, I learned a lot from my experience and I feel confident that I will be able to apply my skills to my personal life, academic journey and professional
