Culture and memories are expressed through food. Everyone can identify themselves with a concrete culture and in every group there are numerous food dishes that satisfies one, or brings back peerless memories and feelings only they can relate to. Food itself has meaning attached to it, from the way it is prepared down to the ingredients used. Factors that influence food can be anything from practices and beliefs to the economy and distribution. Culinary traditions are important in helping express cultural identity. There is a big connection between food and culture and it is passed down from generation to generation to help preserve and embrace those very traditions that make every country unique through food. The early stages of American food were greatly influenced by the Europeans and Native Americans. Typical american cuisines consist of hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, and apple pie, just to name a few foods that have been considered authentic American dishes. Southern-style cooking also known as soul food has also played a major part in American food culture as well. Dishes such a fried chicken, pork chops, collard greens, black eyed peas, and cornbread, are some of the most enjoyed worldwide. Soul food was cultivated by African-Americans taking basic American meals and making it their own by adding a unique twist. African-Americans influenced majority of the home-style foods eaten today. Fast food has also played a major role in America’s food culture. It began in the early 19th century around the Industrial Revolution period and has expanded greatly since then. Starting out with mouth watering burgers on soft bread with an assortment of condiment and crispy golden french fries, fast food has expanded throughout every state and become more diverse as well. America is indeed the fast food capital of the world, restaurants such as McDonalds, Burger king, Zaxby's, Taco bell, Chick-fil-A, and many others have been consistently enjoyed by the general public. Italian meal commonly consist of pastas such as spaghetti, lasagna, penne, and linguine. Italian spaghetti and meatballs has been one of the many worldwide favorite dishes for decades. I remember coming home from school many days with a big plate of spaghetti waiting for me at the table, the slippery noodles, well seasoned meat, and spaghetti sauce all went together perfectly. Pizza is also widely known in the Italian culture and it believed that they perfected it over time. Many Americans have memories connected to pizza, it is one the most easily accessible and enjoyable dishes and it is delicious as well. Whether it be birthday parties, cookouts, graduations, or a Friday night, pizza can be eaten on any occasion. Wine and cheese and also important components of Italian food culture, it also has a very authentic taste seeing how it is home to the most famous vineyard. The different regions in Italy influence the different types of foods eaten. For example, in Central Italy the dishes that Americans love such as spaghetti. and pizza are the most common. North Italy food consist of sausage, pork, rice, fish, potatoes, and various cheeses and Southern Italy dishes commonly use foods like peppers, garlic, olives, olive oil, and stuffed pasta.
