Food security has been one of a major concern for many centuries or let’s say since Mankind has existed on this planet. People all over the world have been looking for more than one way to keep away from hunger and malnutrition. This essay will deal with the several threats to food supplies worldwide, identify some possible solutions and then assess the implications of implementing these solutions.
It goes without saying that the demand of food supplies has sharply increased because of the baby boom in so many countries. (Tiffin,2011). This sharp increase with better medical services and health care have resulted in statistics showing a constant growth of the world population, especially in south- east Asia, south Asia (mainly India and Pakistan), Africa and south America. (Tiffin,2011). Global warming also has resulted in more frequent floods in some areas and more frequent droughts in some other areas like the Sahara Desert in Africa.(Tiffin,2011). These two major threats namely population explosion and climate change have led to shortages of land and water to produce food. (Black,2010). Educating people to make it a plan to start small families, to have fewer children, to feed themselves and their families through a balanced diet, to consume only what they need can only result in less deforestation and fewer losses of investments in farming and agriculture as a whole. When it comes to global integration of approach, it should be kept in mind that developing countries are still on the safe side. (Tiffin,2011). They are generally reluctant to act quickly to give a helping hand to developing countries. They do have plenty of food so the problem affects mainly developing
