However, being a linguistic minority has an impact in the ability to properly communicate with others -- to understand and be understood ¬-- and it has been closely related to mental health. Linguistic restrictions can potentially affect one’s self-esteem and sense of belonging. Additionally, children from a linguistic minority might encounter a decrease in their academic performance when being tested in a language other than their mother-tongue which might cause frustration, and the requirement for additional support in order to overcome such
There are many arguments individuals may make regarding the history of gender-neutral pronouns. Arguments may include the fact that gender-neutral language has not been around for a long time and therefore professors can do without it, as they have since the beginning of time. In fact, individuals such as professor Jordan Peterson claim, “‘I will never use words I hate, like the trendy and artificially constructed words ‘zhe’ and ‘zher’” (Lecture 10, p. 40). In general, especially in the 21st century, there has been a rise in ‘slang’ language, which has not been around since the beginning of time, or even in last century.

All three of those topics can relate to The Office in one or more ways. The first topic, speech anxiety can be caused by more than one reason. One reason speech anxiety can be caused is by a bad experience in front of a group of people.
Gender Language in Japan The study of language and gender has had a big impact on Japanese ideology. The use of Japanese language in Japan include, how the language reveals attitudes towards gender and how people use the language by speaking and writing in ways that reflect gender. In Japan for instance, gender differences in Japanese language used to be very recognizable, but recently the language has become more gender natural as the language evolved.
Analysis Paper #1 Even from a very young age, I had always realized that males and females thought and communicated differently. Within my own family, gender miscommunication plagues my parent's marriage and my relationship with my three sisters. Even so, the dissimilarities between how my girlfriend and I communicate helped me further grasp the importance of understanding gender miscommunication. Through her research, Deborah Tannen has found that males and females see the world through different lenses.

Living with Social Anxiety Disorder By: Brandi Jester Thesis: Have you ever been excited about going out and canceled at the last minute? In this article, Penelope Eckert addresses many important findings about the correlation between language and gender. To begin with, she discusses the pursuit of conversation. She states the nature of conversation between men and women and how conversation is highly structured which includes many communicative conventions (Eckert, 2003). These communicative conventions serve many purposes such as, regulating talk, it governs how many people can talk at once, it also governs when it is the right time to speak and the appropriate duration when speaking (Eckert, 2003). Overall, these communicative conventions aid and play in providing routines and organization as to when to initiate and end conversation (Eckert, 2003).
In the play, “The Importance of Being Earnest”, each gender role reflects on how much power the person has, like whether they are lower class or they are in the higher classes. In this play men have a greater impact or control than women do. Men are more acknowledged for their judgement while women were only acknowledged for their beauty. Oscar Wilde, the author of the play, makes people ask questions about gender roles in the Victorian Era because when he wrote some of the scenes, like the one with Lady Bracknell, she had more power because she was asking Jack all the questions and the only thing Jack got to do was to answer them. The play really described how women were treated in the Victorian era and how they had barely any freedom, (Shmoop Editorial Team).
The experience of anxiety is common and universal. It is not an emotion restricted to the economically deprived nor to the politically oppressed. Anxiety is an inescapable part of the human condition, for life on all its levels, from the international and governmental to the domestic and personal, is marked with uncertainty, perplexity, and stress. Many may deny their personal anxiety, or at least the intensity of it (even to themselves) for a variety of reasons, such as, the desire to avoid embarrassment, the sense of pride, the fear of rejection, the threat and unease of vulnerability, etc; notwithstanding, nearly everyone experiences anxiety to some degree. Its occurrence is disturbing and debilitating.
The deficiency theory suggests that gender differences in language reflect power differences in society. In mixed-sex conversations men are more likely to interrupt than women. An old study of a small sample of conversations, (Zimmerman & West 1975) at the University of California produced 31 segments of conversation. In 11 conversations between men and women, men used 46 interruptions, but women only 2. However, it is true that in studies like these, one interrupting man can seriously destabilise these results and skew conclusions (Beattie 1982).
