The serious lack of foreign policy debate in Washington has resulted in the over commitment of American resources and troops, the negative global perception of American leadership, and an ill-informed electorate. In order to effectively articulate the alternatives that they have long hinted at, Democrats must first challenge the grand strategy of the U.S. foreign policy. Democrats must believe that current reality should shape foreign policy instead of the antiquated assumptions and personal interests of the foreign policy establishment. In retuning to a stance of realism, Democrats can effectively offer a protocol that allows for intervention if and only if the actions are multilateral and take in to consideration the reality of America’s economic capabilities. To further multilateralism, Democrats must work to reform and modernize international organizations so that they can become a reliable tool for national security.

During the late 1700’s while Washington was President, he ordered for a foreign policy of Neutrality; neutrality meaning maintaining unharmful relations with both France and Britain. As the idea of protection and defense of America was continued to be kept in mind by our federal government, by the early 1800’s the Monroe Doctrine was eventually formed to avoid any interferences by Europe and their contagious conflicts, preventing our land to ever
From these, liberal ideals are portrayed to have two main strands with one founded on liberal nationalism while the other on liberal internationalism (Reitan 43). The rational foreign policy approach that that elite policy-makers can consider when confronted with an international hurdle would be similar to the approach adopted in the film. By first securing themselves, the focus is first given to the maintenance of the national sovereignty and the security of liberal institutions at home. In that case, foreign policy should begin with liberal nationalism. Such was evident in the movie as the United States began by securing itself (Reitan 43).

“Why and in what ways did the United States change its foreign policy from 1918-1953?” Since World War I, the united states had always had a problem with forcing its foreign policy. Throughout the past 100 years, the foreign policy has changed depending on public opinion and what was going on in other parts of the world. Islam never interfered with the dogmas of any moral faith, never persecuted… Islam “grasped the sword” in self defense; Christianity grasped it in order to stifle freedom of thought and liberty of belief. Wherever Christianity prevailed, no other religion could be followed without molestation. The Moslems, on the other hand, required from others a simple guarantee of peace, tribute in return for protection, of perfect equality – on condition of the acceptance of Islam (Doc 6).

Singapore’s current political system is a democratic society. On paper, it ticks all the boxes of what makes a democratic system. It gives citizens the right to vote for the person they feel will best represent the voice of the people and address their needs. It also ensures that people have the freedom of speech and expression as stated in Article 14 of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore. The international relations schools of thought known as Realism and Idealism identify specific and similar characteristics of actors in the conceptual development of their theories. While many of these characteristics can be generalized as being synonymous with the two theories, both theories make a separate distinction in what specifically constitutes an actor. In Realism, the term “actor” refers directly and solely to the state: a combination of government, leaders, decision-makers, etc, that act as a unitary entity to promote the interests of the state. Idealists, however, expand on what constitutes an actor to include both the state and people. Not only do the principles of Idealism assert that the state and people should be considered actors, in fact, both they must be viewed as actors.
