Types of Groups: Formal and Informal
What is the meaning of group? A group is a few of people team up together to achieve a certain goals or objectives. They may have same interest in certain activities and mutual interaction. They also will frequently interact with each other and have regular contact.
In organization, group plays an important role as work or activities are in in groups. Individual works is also done in organization but as an organization is a deliberate arrangement of people assembled to accomplish specific goals so we can tell that an organization represent a group of people working together as one person’s actions gives impact on others. Groups of people who get along with each other and have desire contribute to the groups and also give respect to

The members of this group have close relationship with each other as they are mutual interest in certain activities. For examples, employees of Sunway Berhad formed a group of golf players and get together to play golf in the weekends. This type of group is considered informal and not regulated by organization rules and regulation.
Formal and informal group can be differentiated in the following aspects:
1. Origin- The reason of formation of both groups can be differentiated by the origins. Formal group is formed to accomplish certain purpose while informal group is formed in term of socio-psychological forces. It is means members of informal group work together and form same interest in certain activities so they team up so that their interaction with each other can be improved.
2. Purpose- Formal group purpose is to achieve the objectives and goals of an organization. They have a formal organization structure. The informal group is created by members I the formal group to serve their purpose of satisfying their needs which cannot be obtained in a formal
It is a larger, more anonymous group that functions based on statuses, common interests, proximity, or other such situations. An example would be a peer-group attending the same Chemistry class. At the start, some of those attempting to trek north form groups in order to ease the burden of travel.
The groups are the Guardian, Idealist, Artisan, and Rationals. Reviewing and sharing results within the group will give one another an understanding of others point of view, and create an open, trusting enviorment. It is important to be aware of one’s own personality type
Each person in within the organization has the potential to play multiple roles in either a formal or informal group. A formal group is a group of individuals who have a formally designated purpose (Uhl-Bien, Osborn, & Schermerhorn, 2014). A formal group can be a permanent group that appears on an organizational chart or a short-term group that works to solve a problem or issues within an organization (Uhl-Bien, Osborn, & Schermerhorn, 2014). For instance, a formal permanent group in racing would consist of owners ', administration, finance, marketing, shop manager, pit crew, road crew, pit support, engineering, and shop crew.
A collective group is a group of people with similarities, interests, or tasks done by a group of people and involving all members of that group.

In today's society, the balance between individualism and conformity to society's expectations is a prominent and deceptive conflict. Informal employee networks are inexpensive. This is a way of experts to share knowledge and ideas. Formals groups are groups that are controlled by senior officers. The people in that group doesn’t have much informal communication between them but the informal networks are the best in tackling problems. They are independent too.
