Public relations professionals within any organization have a tedious job to do on a day-to-day basis. In almost all cases, the public relations professional would have to take part in various research methods to ensure the organization is not only operating strategically but efficiently as well. The success of an organization depends on this vital data collected by the public relations professional. Both informal and formal research methods are utilized to solidify just that. In retrospect, informal research can be uncontrolled because the collection of data is undefined and not as effective. Formal research is subjective in that the data is measurable, observable and based on facts for the most part. Informal research is very much subjective in that the data collected is opinionated and based on personal interpretations of others. Formal research methods that can be utilized are both qualitative and quantitative. Some qualitative techniques could be case studies, historiography, in depth interviews, focus groups and panels. Some quantitative techniques of formal research can be content analysis and the use of surveys. Informal research methods that can be utilized are unobtrusive measures, communication audits and media research. Unobtrusive measures are measures that don't require the researcher to intrude in the research context. Direct and participant observation requires that the researcher be physically present. This can lead the respondents to alter their behavior in order to look good in the eyes of the researcher. A questionnaire is an interruption in the natural stream of behavior. In a nutshell this type of research is very cost effective and very convenient. Communication audits are relatively easy to conduct it gives an array of opinions about a given issue. A naturalistic observation is when someone is observing people or animals in a natural environment or set. A naturalistic observation would be good to use when you observing people in a a cafeteria. For example under appropriate conditions, you can observe the amount of people who naturally order healthy food verses unhealthy food. Naturalistic observation are good only if you take the time to observe people in their natural environments.

Initially, l clearly defined my goals and objectives of the data collection to ensure the data gathered will be accurate, credible, can be repeated, reproduce able. Then reach an understanding and agreement on the operational definitions and methodology for data collection. As a student there is often a marked divide in my mind between using a qualitative or quantitative approaches. 8.2 Social Concept: Socially, data gathered about a phenomena contain real information and it is useful to the improvement efforts in the society. Good data collection planning prevents errors that commonly occur in data collection process, it saves time and money that otherwise might have been spent on repeated or failed attempts to collect useful data.

Since it would be impossible to interview every student on campus, choosing the mail-out survey as your method would enable you to choose a large sample of college students. You might choose to limit your research to your own college or university, or you might extend your survey to several different institutions. If your research question demands it, the mail survey allows you to sample a very broad group of subjects at small cost.
The three descriptive research methods that I will discuss are Naturalistic Observation, Survey, and Case Study. Naturalistic Observation is a research method in which people or animals are observed in their natural habitat without any controls or variables. This type of research method may be conducted if you want to see how people truly act without being watched. For example, this research method may be used to determine who are healthier shoppers, men or women? The researcher would go to a food store and take count throughout the day of how many men and women he finds in the fruit and vegetable isles, and how many he find in the snack isles.

Abstract Research methods are procedures used for gathering information. The information observed is individual or aggregate data on a phenomenon. Traditionally, there are wide ranges of research methods in criminal justice. The most commonly used are survey methods and data analysis. According to Kleck et al; (2006) “survey research is the dominant method of collecting information followed by use of archived data.’’
Methodology In my thesis I utilized the quantitative content analysis method. There are many definitions of this research method from different authors. Most of the definitions include similar principles. The research should be systematical, objective, quantitative and replicable.
Qualitative research method has been widely used to gather data on specific subjects. With in- depth analysis, this method helps the researcher to get greater insights on various phenomena. The major reason why it is usually preferred over other methods is that it not only examines the when, where and what of a decision making process but also the why and how. Debates, interviews and various other researches are the areas where this approach is commonly used. Depending on the requirement of the research, the data gets streamlined once the entire data is obtained and gathered.
The rapid increase in the programs and websites has also inclined the rivalry among different channels for targeted audience and advertisement companies. In line, to raise the competition and rivalry, the demand for economic content is increased (e.g. latest celebrity gossip, their love-life, trendiness and new fashions in the industry) in order to complete the flourishing quantity of broadcasting time. An English lecturer at the New Jersey College, Ewing; David Blake said that “the media has completely modified the individuals’ experience about celebrity culture than the development in any other culture.” He further added that “Both social and broadcasting Media has made the celebrities more pervasive and dominant in prevailing society and this upsurge has created a completely new sector of public relations. Once the main focus of public relations was to prepare talented peoples with their relative interests and analysis of those benefits that are gained by them but now it involves more dimensions.
“Quantitative research is conducted in a context of previous knowledge” (Polit & Beck, 2017, p. 54)., which could limit a researcher based off their amount of previous knowledge on the subject being studied. And the researcher collect data from a sample size of a population. The sample’s adequacy is assessed by its size and representativeness. (Polit & Beck, 2017). A small sample size could limit the validity of the
