I believe that I should be inducted into the National Junior Honor Society, because of the qualifications I have in character, attitude, education and service to Cliffside Park Middle School and our community. Being inducted into the National Junior Honor Society will help me grow as a person and will provide me with new challenges and skills. I will learn to become more responsible, to have time management, and will have the opportunity to help those in need. My service to the Cliffside Park has helped me learn to help others and to give to others.

There were many groups living in the United States between 1860 and 1900 and most of the groups we can categorize people into had very different viewpoints. The main groups that most can be categorized into are the wealthy, the common people, the Indians and the Chinese. Starting with the wealthy they looked at the west as a big fat paycheck, the wealth folks went out west and bought up lots of land and production and monopolized, while the common people competed with these big companies for free and cheap land because they were the poor back east and came out west with hopes of finding gold while mining or getting rich off abundant crop land or maybe it was some common women who came out west because they were allowed to purchase land out west. The Indians were native to the west and after immigration started some of the bigger tribes fought back but most tribes were too small and were forced by the American
“Beta club is not for everyone, it is just for those who want to be leaders.” That is exactly why I want to be a member of the Beta club. I want to be a leader. The Beta club is an opportunity giving program, which will give us the chance to serve others and be around others who are different from us. The Beta club can open up many students’ hearts and convey their dreams to the world. The world, as well as ourselves, can become confident. I will encourage scholarship, leadership, and good citizenship with my school and community. With my hardwork, not only shall I benefit, but all that I help shall be benefited as well.
In 1603, the English were still a small rising nation, poorer than most, and less powerful than Spain and France. Although the British colonies settled in the Americas late, they quickly became a dominant force in the new world. After they acquired their first permanent settlement in Jamestown, VA in 1607, the British became attracted to greater power and more land, which was the first building block of perhaps the most powerful European nation of the time period. Due to their growth in the Americas, the British were able to be compared to the Spanish colonies of the time period, which boosted the English’s confidence. Along with their growth in confidence, came a new way of thinking. Many British men thought that they

Many white women worked in Freedom Schools established by SNCC, because of the danger they would have faced working in the field. Freedom schools were originally established to teach African American high school students lessons in history and other subjects, because the education they received from public schools was not very good. They originally had a curriculum, but it was hard to follow. SNCC volunteers were not teachers and did not know about every topic. One staff member said to the volunteers, “You’ll meet on someone’s lawn under a tree. You’ll tear up the curriculum and teach what you know.” Eventually, Freedom Schools babysat black children, taught adults how to read and filled the needs of the students. Sandra Adickes, a black
The Earth is an extremely diverse planet, but have you ever wondered about where the most multicultural cities in the world are located? Toronto is ranked among the most multicultural cities in the world (Morfin). Around the globe, Canada is thought of for its diversity, and bilingualism. All of these have been achieved because of Lester B. Pearson, Canada’s Prime Minister from 1963-1968 (Bothwell). In fact, Pearson airport, Canada’s largest airport, has been named after him. Pearson had contributed so much to Canada, as he reviewed old policies and created new ones. He played huge roles in peacekeeping missions, and was critical to the creation of Canada’s national flag (Bothwell). Lester B. Pearson proved to be an
The Skibo Castle is a property rich in history and is known for being the ‘playground’ for society’s elite. Located in Scotland, the Skibo Castle has experienced numerous changes over the years. Primarily this building was used as a 12th century castle. Many centuries later it was used as the home to the wealthy industrialist, Andrew Carnegie. Most recently, the castle has been transformed into a members-only country Club called the Carnegie Club and is owned by Ellis Short. Members pay an annual amount of $6,600 and the fee per day is $1,700. The property currently has 21 rooms, a golf course, 250 members and 130 employees. The purpose of the membership fees is to contribute to the financing of the upgrades to the asset. The
Needless to say, all members of the club are either royals or influential politicians and the waitlist is awfully long. Gambling is one of the main acitivites there and the club’s betting book abounds with expensive and odd bets. In the early 19th century a fabulously rich Lord bet another peer £ 200 000 that one raindrop will beat the other on the way to the bottom of the front window. Why bet on horse races when you have raindrops?
What was supposed to be a regular day of work turned to be an unpleasant moment in life. Something like that shouldn’t happen to an 18 year old. A dark day, full of uncertain decisions. Made me think how people can enjoy hurting families like that. In those moments I learned to appreciate life and to know that nothing last forever.
Junior year. Some might say this is the most important year of high school. You start seriously thinking about college, you try to keep all your grades up, you take the ACT, and somehow you try to keep a social life. However, those challenges were nothing compared to what I had to deal with my junior year. In the beginning of September I dislocated my kneecap in weightlifting. We were warming up for box jumps that day and I did a lunge and that was the end of that. I remember hearing a pop and looking around thinking that that pop did not sound good at all and then I looked down and realized that it was me and my kneecap was on the side of my knee. I tried to move but I could not so I instantly fell to the ground. After the adrenalin stopped

Attending convocation the week of homecoming is an event I am glad I attended. My thoughts on convocation consist of me being very moved. The guest speaker Angela Robinson is someone I look up to, and watch on television. Hearing such inspirational words from someone I look up to, made me very motivated. I wrote down some quotes that really stood out to me, jotted them down on sticky notes and placed them on my mirror. “If it’s never been done before, that’s okay do it anyway”, “being realistic is a common road to mediocrity”, and “your career is what is you are paying, but your calling is what you are made for”, are the quotes that really encouraged and moved me. Usually there are many students who attend convocation, but for the homecoming
