The purpose of this paper is to dive into the concept of frames and reframing in the context of personal and organizational leadership. Drawing from insights gained from an interview with a leader and reflecting on the thoughts, ideas, and concepts presented in the course, the paper discusses how frames and reframing enhance understanding of self and relationships with others in terms of leadership. The paper also explores the application of frames and reframing in organizational leadership, with emphasis on the importance of these concepts in effective leadership. A few examples of frames include beliefs, values, and assumptions that we hold about ourselves, others, and the world. They have the ability to provide us with a sense of coherence and meaning, giving us the opportunity to navigate complex situations more effectively. Although, reframing is the process of altering our frames to gain new perspectives and adapt to changing circumstances. This includes questioning and changing our assumptions, beliefs, and values to enhance our understanding and response to certain situations. I have recognized that my impatience and attention to detail can hinder my ability to connect and communicate with others. However, I also have been able to acknowledge my strengths in sympathizing with others, bringing people together, and staying focused on tasks. This understanding of my frame has allowed me to better adapt to different situations and communicate more effectively with others. I have learned to appreciate the diverse perspectives that different frames bring to a team and have recognized the importance of balance in work and my personal life. My conversation with Andy Fitzgerald has helped me see similarities in our perspectives on leadership, particularly regarding the importance of confidence, balance, and setting small goals for personal growth. My time in 4-H, working, volunteering, and my first semester of college have provided me with leadership opportunities and experiences that were often challenging. In order to cope with these challenges, I had to develop skills that would allow me to move forward. The first of which is the ability to work well on a team. This skill is one that I’ve had to practice in many environments such as completing a group project, playing softball, working in food service, and volunteering as a camp counselor.
I believe true success is only achieved when you accomplish a goal as a result of determination and action, not by waiting on luck or chance. In order for me to become successful, I must invest a lot of myself in to obtaining the goals I set for myself. hen it becomes my turn to take the AP Calculus Exam, I expect to receive a minimum score of a four. I also plan to take the BC Exam, so I am mentally preparing myself to work even harder than I am expected to. My goal is to use the college credit I will receive by passing the AP Calculus Exam and use it towards my undergraduate degree, which I hope to use to apply to medical school and become a doctor.
For my leadership philosophy, I believe the definition of leadership is the process of being an effective collaborator, listener, manager, and role model which transfers to the betterment of oneself and those around you which in turn builds strong performance and change in the branch of the United States Coast Guard. For leadership, I gear myself towards a collaborative approach. My reasoning being that after assisting shipmates in the past this approach came to mind right away. This is also true of my role as a school counselor in the civilian sector, I take an active but democratic like partnership type role in that process.

The subject matter of change is integrated throughout the following chosen texts; The Art of Resilience by Hara Estroff Marano, Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, and The Third and Final Continent by Jhumpa Lahiri. The Art of Resilience focuses on changing to better your way of life. Along with the document of Hara Estroff Marano, Speak focuses on an extremely similar concept. However, The Third and Final Continent centers on the topic of learning to react and handle different types of change. The Art of Resilience, Speak, and The Third and Final Continent all maintain a common theme of change.

In developing this paper on leadership, I examined what was most important to me as a leader. As I reflected on my leadership philosophy, I thought about my experiences and the principals that I have learned through my own self-discovery and the observation of other leaders that I have had throughout my life. My leadership philosophy paper will focus on what leadership is to me, core values, and knowledge of others. In thinking about my definition of leadership, I thought of what was most important to me in and as a leader.
Every leader had their own special blend of perspectives and world views that influence their approach to leadership. A frame is a perspective from which a person views the world and it influences how they interacts with others. There are four frames of reference: structural, human resource, political, and symbolic. These viewpoints are developed overtime achieving a more poised mindset and approach. How does each frame influence my personal leadership style and relate to my work environment?
3.1.2 – Dynamics between leadership and management According to John Kotter from Harvard Business School, leadership and management are both complementary as well as distinct from each other. Kotter talks about the dynamics between leadership and management as being a part wherein the leadership process involves developing the vision of the organisation and aligning the people with the vision of the organisation and motivating employees through the satisfaction of their needs. Leadership brings in change in the organisation. Whereas the management involves the functional aspects like planning, organising, staffing and controlling and problem-solving.
My frame of reference affects my identity of who I am. It also affects my values, perceptions, goals, and what’s important to me. What’s my core value? What’s my mission in life?
Almost always, two minds are better than one. Synergizing was the highest scoring section on my seven habits profile at a sixteen. Creating synergy links to achieving win-win scenarios. Valuing people’s differences and utilizing their each individual strength to achieve greater things makes me a suitable leader. Realizing that everyone thinks and communicates differently, I usually try to hear everyone out before making a decision.
I am a firm believer in achieving my goals because I know that they will reflect on my future. At times, I may fail but I do not let that stop me from trying. Instead, I let it teach me a lesson and push myself even harder to do better the next
Through self-reflection and academic readings, I have discovered that I identify with three different leadership theories. During the first meeting in a Strength Based Leadership class, we were asked to write our leadership history. The class then began an ongoing exploration of various leadership theories. Upon reviewing my leadership history from the first class and synthesizing the information from the theories that were examined, I discovered that I most resonate with the Trait Leadership Theory, the Skills Leadership Theory, and the Path-Goal Leadership theory. These theories are leader focused, describing the process and techniques a leader uses to accomplish goals.
