Good writing can only be seen throughout text if there is evident time, thought, and interaction with the text. In our society today, there is often a lack of these three elements that are vital to the composition and effectiveness of a piece. In order to reach the bare minimum in terms of “good writing”, one must take these precedents into serious consideration otherwise, the author will not be writing at their full potential. Each of the three necessary components are briefly touched upon one way or another by three of the most renown authors: William F. Buckley, Jr., George Orwell, and Francine Prose. That is the question that needs to be answered by us as writers. Is always aiming to be just adequate in our writing fair? In today’s culture, most individuals and teams are constantly striving to be the best by being #1 in the state, country, and even the world. It only makes sense that the norms set in place now are invalid as they are addressing only good writing, not great or exceptional writing. In terms of successful and effective writing, good will do just the trick if the three required components are all there. All individuals should be encouraged to write as it is a creative outlet that has an ongoing cycle of inspiration and action. But, it is the beginning of a new challenge for herself. The weekend before she is supposed to give her speech, she has no idea what to write. She wanted to be able to express herself and give a voice to her freedom. Finally she has an idea late the night before, “I started to write, recklessly, three, five pages, looking up once only to see my father passing by the hall on tiptoe. When I was done, I read over my words, and my eyes filled.

So when White found William Strunk's book full of writing rules and tips, he knew he could not let his old professor's book disappear with the times. So he took the time to publish a book to share Strunk’s wisdom with the world. E. B. White cherished this book written by William Strunk. White refers to this little book and its content as a “rich deposit of gold.”

Her essay is intended to encourage writers who are in need of direction when it comes to writing and to teach inexperienced writers ways to become more successful in writing. Anne Lamott uses her personal experiences to build credibility, figurative language to engage the reader and provides the reader with logical steps for the writing process. To build credibility on her processes success, Lamott uses her own personal experiences.
In the second paragraph she states, “Eventually a fortunate few will find their way into educational repair shops-adult literacy programs,such as the one where I teach basic grammar and writing.” This gives her a tremendous amount of credibility and expertise in this speech. Not only does she gain credibility by working in the education field, but she gains credibility because she works with the kids that have been failed by the education system. In this short passage by William Zinsser, Zinsser used compare and contrast to inform the readers about his personal opinions of being a writer. Due to different understandings and opinions on how to be a good writer, Zinsser decided to use compare and contrast in order to present a clean and detailed differences to the reader about how different people’s writing style can vary. By doing this, it would be extremely helpful for the readers to distinguish the differences of each writing style, see the benefits and disadvantages, and ultimately gather enough information to decide which style fits them the best. At the panel with Dr. Brock, Zinsser gave the audience a broader view of different writing styles and how they contribute differently.
Article Analysis: The Importance of Writing Badly Bruce Ballenger’s article titled “The Importance of Writing Badly” takes a rather peculiar approach to addressing the issue of effective writing. The author eccentrically argues for the importance of ‘bad writing’ by describing different reasons to support his arguments. He argues that it is normal to apportion blames without understanding the root causes of poor writing skills. The author quotes different people who have expressed concerns about poor writing among students including his doctor. He proceeds by explaining why he would encourage his students not to concentrate on their poor writing experiences.
As a college student, Emily Vallowe wrote a literacy narrative with a play on words title: “Write or Wrong Identity.” In this work, she told the story of how she believed her confidence as a writer developed; however, she was becoming dubious as to her distinctiveness as an author. Although I have never been a self-proclaimed wordsmith as Ms. Vallowe obviously had been for years, I related to her journey. Not only did she grow up in Northern Virginia like I did, she never considered herself an inept writer—a possibility that I could not fathom about myself. Then, at some point, we both began to question our own ability and to question who we really were.

I am now able to see the areas in which I lack in but I also recognize my strengths as well. To become a precise writer, you have to take the initiatives that will help you do so. These initiatives consist of working on different academic genres, planning and organizing material, identifying purpose and audience and for revising intentionally. It is also includes reading different types of texts and learning how to understand a writer’s argument and respond to the ideas of others.
Before taking writing skills two I 've had a positive mindset towards writing because I see it as a way to express my thoughts. For example, whenever I feel a bit melancholy writing a short story or just free writing always makes me feel a bit better. On the other hand, I don’t believe I’m the best writer because like every other student I make mistakes in my writing. Although, I don’t take the editing negatively I always look back at my past essay and try to reflect on them to see how I can always improve my writing skills. Overall, I have a pretty good mindset towards writing even though I have my mistakes I know if I study harder I can become a better writer over time.

However, I have seen myself significantly improve and mature as a writer over the past few months more than I have in the past four years.
