Max Kane is a twelve year old boy that is actually fairly large and tall for his age. He had always had trouble with school and becoming friends with people, especially being in the Disabled Learning classes. Then, one day, he meets this other kid named Kevin Avery, or Freak for a nickname. At first their friendship doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a strong one, I mean when they first met Freak told Max he wanted him dead. Max and Freak’s friendship is defined by how they combine to make one whole person, the way Max thinks he’s dumb, and how Max reacted to Freak’s death. The title of this book, Freak the Mighty, comes from Max and Freak making up a whole person. The way Max and Freak make up one whole person is pretty simple. Max is tall …show more content…
Freak ends up in the hospital after starting to have a seizure at lunch in school one day. After a few days of being there and Max being hopeful that he will be okay, Freak dies. Morquio syndrome has taken Freaks’ life, from his heart growing too big for his small body. Max becomes a mass after he found out, and also found out Freak lied to him, because the doctors lied to Freak to not upset Freak, especially with only being in middle school with this many problems. Max stays in his room for days and days with the door locked, with not wanting to see anybody. Then, one day came by and he started acting normal again, and started learning to cope with his best friends’ death. Max and Freak’s friendship is defined by how they combine to make one whole person, the way Max thinks he’s dumb, and how Max reacted to Freak’s death. Their friendship was very good and solid. They worked together as a team, and never went against each other. Max was there for him ‘til the very end, and has cared ever since. When Max lost Freak, he felt like he lost a part of him. This is the friendship you should wish to have one
Max help Kevin out a lot because when they were in the street way but Max learned to stand up for himself and Kevin because he started to care about him and himself as well. He started to protect his friends and not be afraid of anyone. Just started to care about people and Kevin kept going on. Max would do anything for Kevin because he knew that Kevin had a problem like in the lunchroom when Kevin started choking and Max saved Kevin's life. It just shows how much Max cares about Kevin as a friend to him and not just a person but like a brother.
The novel Freak The Mighty By Rodman Philbrik is a realistic fiction story about two boys who are in middle school and become best friends. They go on crazy made up adventures. They each have a story to them like who they are today. There names are Max and Kevin. The book was published in 1993.
so they became forever friends. In both the movie and the book Freak dies because his heart grew too big for his little body. Both the book and the movie are amusing. Both Freak and Max were bullied. Both in the book and the movie Max had a disorder with his body that prevented him from playing sports.
The book Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick is a book about two boys that become best friends and have a special connection. In the movie, The Mighty, there are several scenes the same, but there are also many different scenes. The movie portrays several scenes differently than they are in the book such as the lunch scene, the return of the purse, and how Freak rescues Maxwell. In the movie, the lunch scene is different because of how Freak is playing with the gruel, and making jokes to impress a girl.
What’s happening in the story is that Max is acting tough but he’s not. In paragraph 50/51 the text says The boys asked Max if he had been crying “Naw” he said “there was the water dripping from the tunnel roof but you said don’t move right?” “Well I was just being obedient.” This shows that this is important because it’s showing that he’s acting tough
Both these protagonists happen to be political refugees avoiding Nazi persecution: Liesel’s parents were Communists and Max is a Jew. Max and Liesel alike have recurring nightmares about the last time they saw their families and these help Max and Liesel link themselves in areas where no one would understand their pain due to the loss of their family. Unlike most relationships theirs is based on their similar past and personalities as well as unspoken understanding along with the trust for each other. These similarities form a strong bond between Max and Liesel and this makes “The Standover Man”, a book compiled by Max using pages from “Mein Kampf” important, as Max helps Liesel realize that the power of words can be used to delight as well as harm others. “The best standover man I’ve ever known is not a man at all...”, a line within “The Standover Man” implies that Max believes that Liesel and he need each other and this friendship is unique to both of
Max has his meeting with the principle, then soon after Freak chokes on food. Also, the novel and the movie both have or show Max living with Gram and Grim. There is also Freak naming the elements of the fireworks show while sitting on Max’s shoulders. They find Loretta’s purse in the drain.
There were a lot of things that were the same in the book and movie Freak the Mighty. There also was some difference. Some of the difference weren 't really a big difference, so some people may not have noticed them. Some of the other differences were big differences so most people probably noticed them if they paid attention to both. Some difference I recognized were that in the book when Max and Kevin were getting the purse out of the sewer they hooked it to a paper clip and string to pull it out, in the movie Max went in the well to get the purse.
I say that because whenever one of them is in trouble they combine their strength to get out of situations. The only problem with that is that Max does not have mental strength and Freak doesn’t have muscle. All these instances show Rodman Philbrick highlighting the theme of external conflict bringing them together. Other characters don’t understand Freak or Max’s problems; they just judge them for what attributes they lack. There was one time when Max was abducted by Killer Kane and Freak came to save the day by tricking Killer Kane that there was acid in his gun, and he squirted it on his eye, tricking him that he will turn out to be blind because of it.
Max may be a little dimwitted, but he has a very strong body and will try and stick up for Kevin when he needs help. Kevin is very short and frail, but has a very strong mind. Kevin helps Max get his thoughts together. In the story Max and Kevin go on many adventures together as Freak the Mighty. Freak the Mighty is a 9 foot tall warrior who goes around slaying dragons and fools.
The bullying in Freak the mighty is very similar to everyday bullying. I believe bullying can make kids stronger to stand up to the bullies. Like shown in freak the Mighty. The bullying Freak and Max experienced makes them more understanding of each other , Stronger as friends, and also more courageous.
Max accepts Liesel’s child-like sense of entertainment. While Liesel loyally builds a snowman for Max. When the snowball scene turns out wrong, Liesel loyally tried to nurse him back to safety. Liesel had the courage to accept befriend Max and loyal enough to keep it a secret.
Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick has objects or places that could be symbols for larger ideas. Each one has a completely different meaning. Whether that be to the author, the characters, or to the reader. Many of these objects include the ornithopter, the dictionary, and the empty book.
At the end of the summer in Freak the Mighty, Freak and Max get to go back to school. Minus the fact that he has never been in one before, Max is put into all advanced classes so he can be with Freak. The reason they are put into classes together is because Freak helps Max write and learn vocabulary by making him look up words he doesn’t know in a dictionary. Freak also helps the teachers understand that Max does know the answers but, he just doesn't like to speak in front of the class. Both in school and out, Max helps Freak with mobility by carrying Freak on his shoulders.
Max not only is in danger himself, but puts Liesel's whole family at risk. “Now I think we are friends, this girl and me. On her birthday it was she who gave a gift to me,”(Zusak Ch 12). Liesel gave Max the gift of friendship, and that meant a lot to Max. Liesel hugs Max as an act of pity, but Max sees it more than that.
