The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave shows that for many people in this day and age and for slaves there is a direct correlation with education to freedom. Circe Institute defines education as the cultivation of wisdom and virtue by nourishing the soul on truth, goodness, and beauty. It should be distinguished from training (for a career), which is of eternal value but is not the same thing as education. Through this book, Douglass shows the reader that as a slave, he 's encountered masters who 've gone out their way to deny him an education. However, as Douglass continues on he finds that education is his key to freedom.
