Although this only freed slaves in the rebellious area, it demonstrated the moral side of the war. In Lincoln's letter written in 1863, he stated “Why should they do anything for us, if we will do nothing for them?” (Doc 3). He is referring to the African Americans which shows that Lincoln’s policies and goals in the Civil War driven by the desire to enlist African Americans in fighting to preserve the Union. Consequently, the freed slaves were encouraged to enlist and take part of the Union side and army.

Answer: The Wade Davis Bill was developed by Representative Henry Winter Davis and Senator Benjamin Wade in order to establish Reconstruction in the Confederate States, which were against the freeing of African Americans. Under this bill, supporters of the Confederacy were required to swear allegiance to the United States in order to be allowed into the Union once again. Most important of all, it abolished slavery.

It had previously existed throughout history, in many times and in most places.” Enslaved blacks have been resilient people; despite the various efforts such as slave laws taken to restrain them, they resisted slavery through the rebellion of non-violent schemes towards their Slave masters. An Enslaved black would often be referred to as a human being who was made to be a slave either through birth, contract or trade for purposes such as planation or domestic drudgery.
Hughes uses the inequality that still stands in the “free” America to voice that everyone should be equal. Hughes uses various allusions to portray the didactic meaning of the poem that the statements of a free America for everyone, is far from the truth. Solomon Northup’s 12 Years A Slave gives a heart-wrenching depiction of what slavery was like in America. If the cruel images of the realities of slavery do not affect readers emotionally, then there is at least hope that the logical arguments raised throughout the novel can persuade those who are unwilling to see slavery

The American Civil War ended in 1865, with defeat of the Southern States. Slavery as the root of the conflict between the North and the South was abolished in 1865 with passage of the Thirteenth Amendment. (Ransom, 1989) Despite the presidential efforts to deliver justice to blacks by passing the Fourteenth and the Fifteenth Amendments, racial discrimination in the U.S. continued for several decades. During the Civil War, the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Abraham Lincoln; it declared that “All person’s held as slaves within the rebellious states henceforward shall be free”, but blacks still felt that they were being treated unfairly. Fredrick Douglas was a leading American Abolitionist and anti-slavery activist; born a slave, Douglas freed himself when he was twenty years old. Being an activist from the early 1840’s until about 1890 when the Jim Crow Laws were coming to affect (Jim Crow being laws that forced racial segregation). He made waves and changed the lives of millions. In this paper I will discuss what era he lived in, just a few of the thousands of speeches he gave, journal entries he’s written, how he impacted the slave free world we know today and following with some criticism he got when doing such a brave act of giving many people hope. Frederick Douglass was the most influential African American, he changed the views of slavery and also managed to publish a book called Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave. He was born into slavery in February 1818, and his real date of birth is unknown He helped with women’s suffrage. Frederick Douglass is revolutionary because he was able to escape slavery, learn how to read and stand up to his slave owners.
