INTRODUCTION
Management can be defined as “achieving goals in a way that makes the best use of all resources.” Management is like investment; its goal is to get the most out of resources, add the most value or get the best return. (Mccrimmon, 2011)
Every single organization relies on approved practices in managing their day to day activities. This may include the using identified best methods in completing a particular task, how to remunerate workers, adopting the right working conditions for employees, and others. All these methods have been proven through series of tests and experiments and are known as theories.
A theory is said to be a systematic and general attempt to explain something. The management of organizations came as a result of the works of certain theorist who sought to identify the best methods of getting work done at the work place. Most of these theorists made their breakthroughs working in engineering environments. They drove their ultimate desires into convictions and found ways which ensured positive results like reducing work times when completing work.
MANAGEMENT AS A PRODUCT OF ENGINEERING
A product of something is a result from that something. So when success comes as a result of hard work, success then

Known to be the father of Scientific Management, Taylor expressed workers are not going to operate to their maximum efficiency and there is a lot of effort wasted in the system. Working in the Midvale Steel Company, he analysed and timed steel workers movement on a series of jobs then broke down each job into various components. He established how workers at the shop should be able to deal with materials at hand by finding the quickest and best method of performing each component. His theory widely known as “Principles of Scientific Management” was clearly made while ensuring there is increase in productivity and efficiency at the engineering
Think of success like watching a tree grow the branches split into different paths one can take each split is another opportunity to prosper and grow beautiful leaves like trophies. An uncommon belief is that the process of becoming successful is like a tree branch, if one starts off strong, more paths appear growing from the sturdy branch, and achieving goals lead to leaves growing to show wealth. “It is those who are successful, in other words, who are most likely to be given the kinds of special opportunities that lead to further success,” (Gladwell 30). Author of nonfiction book Outliers: The Story of Success, Malcolm Gladwell, agrees with this uncommon belief, in his book he argues that success does not come from intelligence or passion
People have different views on what success really means. Some say success is based on money or fame. If you have a lot of money or fame you're "definitely" successful. Others say success is based on your fulfillment and overall happiness in your life. Alfred Brooks, the protagonist in the novel
To reap you must sew, so without working hard it will be difficult for one to be successful. In today's world competitive world everyone wants to be wealthy and successful. Whether it may be a successful actor, designer, realtor, or inventor luck had nothing to do with it, but hard work does. When it came to The American Dream, people believed that if they worked hard enough they would be able to sustain a better life for those behind them. Success may be described as the realization of any goal.
Gladwell’s Argument in Outliers Success is a concept that is constantly altered and has a different meaning from person to person. The stereotypical definition of success would be someone who has a high-paying job or is in the upper-class. Malcolm Gladwell, the author of Outliers: The Story of Success, approaches the concept of success in a different and unique way. Gladwell discusses how opportunities, cultural legacy, and hard work all coincide with each other to produce real success. He uses mostly logic and multiple unrelated anecdotes to support and provide evidence for his statements.
What Is Success What is success? According to the dictionary, it is “the fact that you have achieved something that you want and have been trying to do or get; the fact of becoming rich or famous or of getting a social position, etc”. Success seems a simple word, yet this plain word renders a large amount of individuals pay relentless endeavors. Remembering the CCTV host Wang Zhi said that success is relative, and everyone has its own standard of success. For many people, success means money, statue, reputation, and so on.
Success is a noun which comes from the latin root word, successes, meaning, "an advance, succession, happy outcome.” Success can therefore be defined as an accomplishment of a desired end (dictionary.com). Everyone has his or her own interpretation or definition of what they think success is, but in this interpretation, there is always a common goal at the end. That goal is to have a happy and good outcome. Willy Lowman’s definition of success was skewed, and for this, he did not achieve a happy and good outcome like he may have planned.
Management can be defined as getting the maximum efficiency and effectiveness out of a set of activities. A manager carries out this process. My chosen company for this project is Microsoft.
Support: Eric Thomas, the author of the book ‘The Secret to Success’, once said about success that whatever paths taking us to success, at some point we all have to go through the boulevard of hard work. Example: If you want to achieve success, hard work and dedication are the second element after explicit plans. In addition, we had better take responsibility for our tasks. None can help us to fulfil our targets but ourselves, hence learning to bear responsibility is very essential.
1.0 INTRODUCTION It is an essential to have clear understanding of an organization’s purposes to understand how organization works and its method of working can be improved. Usually, general objectives lead to clarification of purposes and responsibilities at all level of organizations. Management is the process of communicating, coordinating and accomplishing action in the pursuit of organization objectives while managing relationship with stakeholders, technologies and other artifacts, both within as well as between organizations. (Kinicki)
People tend to work to meet their desires and to improve
Allegory of the Cave by Plato can be applied to modern day society in many ways. The ideology of success in our society is responsible for dictating human thought that success is based on money and wealth. I believe that one is successful when a person achieves their desired goals and aims. Success is different for everyone.
Scientific management (also known as TAYLORISM) is an approach that was created in order to increase the productivity of workers and to ensure that there was no hostility between the workers and the management. It included a set of principles that were drawn up as a conclusive result of systematic study of the work in industries. The father of the ‘human relations’ approach is Elton Mayo (1880-1949). He is famous for his well-known “Hawthorne Studies”.
As mentioned above, there are five tasks of management that should be accomplished in a daily work routine. Those are planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling (Koontz and O’Donnell, 1976). Notwithstanding that some theorists, such as Richard Steers (1985) and Mason Carpenter (2009), highlight only four of those, planning is always considered to be the first and main function of management. It is an activity that involves choosing a strategy to accomplish the objectives of the organization, using the resources effectively and efficiently (Olum, 2004). To make a good plan, a manager should follow the essential steps of planning, which are setting goals, identifying the threats and opportunities of the organization, developing a plan for achieving the goals, and finally evaluating it and reviewing (Gamache, 2008; Duncan,
In their opinion, achieving success is a personal thing, so it's okay to work very hard without considering other features. I don't agree with either of these two opinions, however, I believe that to achieve success needs a full preparation including a final goal, confidence, features such as perseverance and hard-working, instead of focusing on opportunity only or people themselves. I strongly believe that these well-preparation pave the way to achieve success, and those people who with good features will achieve success sooner or later. Only if you are well-prepared, can you catch the opportunity to make it successfully.
Fayol developed the ’14 Principles of Management’ including; Initiative, giving employees the freedom and space to be creative and unique. Espri de Corps; where a business will promote uniqueness and unity within a workforce and Scalar Chain; where employees will always be made aware of their place and role within the business, ( Manktelow 2015). Whereas Taylor called his theory ‘Scientific Management’ and overly stressed the need for efficiency and restricted himself to the activity of production within a firm. It could even be said that Taylor had a micro-approach due to his restrictions within a factory and Fayol had a macro approach as his principles are adaptable to all fields of management. However, Taylor did conduct several experiments earlier on in his studies testing the task sytem within a firm focusing on all aspects of production such as the time needed, materials, labour and what was the quickest, most-effective way of producing the good in question, ( Taylor 1911)
