Post Write for EP 2: Rhetorical Analysis In my essay “The Fight for Freedom,” I feel like I did a good job of portraying what Patrick Henry intended for his speech. I was able to take his sentences and portray them in a way that everyone would be able to understand. Some processes that helped me write this essay were; the incubation period, where I was able to think what I was going to write, the planning process, where I could organize all of my thoughts onto paper, and the process of peer review and being able to get advice to improve my paper. I still need improvement on my essay structure, my grammar, and elevated word choice.
“Learning to Read and Write” and “Freewriting” both accomplish the act of trying to express freedom of thought. With free expression, people are able to express themselves through writing. Not only does expressing the self through writing empower a person, but it also acts as motivation. Learning new things and trying to express them through writing down thoughts helps individuals understand themselves. Writing is what makes each individual different.
He always writes in the same place with the same items around him. Using this practice might heighten my focus on what I am writing because of the minimal amount of distractions that would be in my surroundings. 2) In Carl Hiaasen’s “Real Life, That Bizarre and Brazen Plagiarist” Hiaasen uses the real
From here it becomes easy right? No. the next obstacle I must face is writing the essay itself. Doing work is a bit like brushing your teeth; you know you will thank yourself if you do it, but you still have that bit of hesitation which nibbles on you every time you must. I knew I had no choice though.
Under the category of “Previewing the Text”, the author mentioned actions like skimming the text for a quick overview, noting boldfaced words, headings, and paying attention to incorporated lists. Whenever I am taking notes out of a textbook, especially out of a science textbook, I always perform these actions. For one, it allows for me to be comfortable with the material. However, these actions do not pertain to me just reading the text; rather, I can be an efficient author by incorporating these methods into my writing as well. If I were to ever author a piece of informational text, I would make sure to utilize the use of headings and boldfaced words, for they really stress the importance of both the overall text and some of the ideas found within
For instance, when Alexie introduces how he learned to read, he states: “The words themselves were mostly foreign, but I still remember the exact moment when I first understood, with a sudden clarity, the purpose of a paragraph.” In making this comment, Alexie magnifies the impact reading would have for his future. Alexie’s point in writing this sentence, is to demonstrate that learning to read requires perseverance. However, persistence will be rewarded, with the knowledge provided by reading. By doing this the author is trying to say that today, there are unlimited resources for reading; therefore, educators have to take advantage of this opportunity to evoke passion for reading in their students, regardless their ethnicity.
1. Chapter 10 I learned the different between integrate by bowered material (such as quotation, paraphrase or summary) and synthesize strategies by use together your own ideas with ideas of others in page 246 -247. Absolutely, the writing with rescoring is important for an essay to support the information by specific example or give the reader some feedback. In my opinion, if you write the essay, should be provide your main idea by some resources, summarize or quotations to make the essay more interesting.
My instructor Jennifer Jackson said this time “ Bravo! This is one of the strongest revisions I’ve seen yet.” This essay gave me so much confidence and made me feel I can actually write something interesting. Also, I sent my paper to The Writing Center, after I submitted my paper to my instructor to see any other mistakes I could have to improve my writing skills.
It unlike some less formal types of writing, academic writing focuses on technique and how it should be used to best communicate ideas. If students learn about style and how to write essays early on in their academic careers, they find it much easier to write essays in college and university. Lecturers in the college and university have preferred styles or formatting requirements, so academic writing forces students to take these into consideration and create a paper that will impressed (eWritingService 2017). While reading the assigned articles, Begley and Heilbroner, I left comments in the margins as well as underlining quotes that stuck out to me that I could potentially use in my essay. Another objective that I struggled with is the idea of properly combining my ideas with the ideas of others. I understand that doing this can make your paper stronger. It can help open more doors and help you go someplace in your paper you didn’t think you could go. I feel like it was easy for me to add quotes and to explain more of what I wanted to talk about, but it was a challenge to figure out paraphrasing and summarizing the ideas of others that I could use in my unit 3 paper without
Writing more than one draft gives you the opportunity to fix any problems and to analyze where the essay isn’t working. In addition, it would be preferable to type your essay instead of writing it out because it save you a tremendous amount of time, avoid hand cramps, and many writing programs like Word or Grammarly can point out your grammar mistakes with a push of a button. Also, don’t
When it comes to writing I write what I feel or am thinking. I write what seems right. My current approach is to reread and delete and reread and delete like 1000 times. When something does not seem right I highlight tell I can figure out if I need to get rid of it or if it fits. Tell the truth I feel like I do not have a strength as a writer.
The entire assignment was basically creating a presentation on a genre we found on our own to show our understanding of the concept. At the beginning of this class I thought that all of the writing assignments were going to be extremely hard, but after this assignment I realized that these assignments really aren’t going to be too difficult. I think this is due to the Writing as a Process SLO and that fact that it really helps break things into easy understandable parts that flow into one another. I’m glad this was the first assignment because it helped me get a good foothold of what this class is going to be without being too
