Romeo Montague, in Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, has a few people to blame for his unanticipated death. Romeo has gone through a lot of trouble for loving Juliet and he’s only able to love her through secrecy. During the play in Verona, Romeo’s death should be blamed to Friar Laurence, Lady Capulet, and Juliet.
In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the “star-crossed lovers” ultimately lose their lives because of the actions of Friar Laurence. Friar Laurence should be blamed for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because of his irresponsibility. He is the one that married Romeo and Juliet. If Friar Laurence had established a backup plan in the first place, Romeo could have gotten the news. If Friar Laurence just told Romeo and Juliet's parents in the first place, they would not have had to hide anything.
The first reason why Friar Laurence is to blame is because he married Romeo and Juliet. After they decided they wanted to get married right away, Romeo and Juliet go to Friar’s cell to get married. Friar first questions the love because Romeo was in love with another women only a few hours ago. He only agrees to marry them because he thinks it will end the family tension. “In one respect I’ll thy assistant be; / For this alliance may be so happy prove / To turn your households’ rancor to pure love” (II.iii.90-92). Friar Laurence caves in pretty easy after Romeo explains why Juliet is the one. Readers would think that he
The question of who is most responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet can be complicated. Almost everybody in the play can be blamed because everybody has pitched in a little. There are many characters in the play by William Shakespeare who wronged Romeo and Juliet. The characters that contributed the most to Romeo’s and Juliet’s deaths are Friar Laurence, Lord Capulet and Paris.
Friar Laurence is to blame for the death of Juliet. Friar Laurence is the church leader in Verona. He is a friend and adviser to Romeo. He hopes by marrying Romeo and Juliet he will end the feuding. He also has a vast knowledge of plants and herbs.Though some readers might believe that Friar Laurence is innocent in the death of Juliet, it is clear that Friar Laurence is actually responsible for her death. 1 He gave Juliet the potion and this was his plan. 2 He never told Friar John how important delivering the letter to romeo was. 3 He went and married Romeo and Juliet.
First off, Friar Laurence should have been more responsible and told the prince about Romeo and Juliet’s marriage . Besides the Friar’s confession in 5.3, the Friar never tells Prince Escalus of Romeo and Juliet's secret marriage. The Prince would have accepted the marriage as it is in the confines of the law (Canon 219). With Prince Escalus’s support, their would be no reason for Romeo and Juliet to keep their relationship a secret and they would be accepted by Verona. However, Friar decided to keep it undisclosed. Secondly, Even after seeing the consequences of Romeo and Juliet’s marriage in Tybalt’s death, he continues to keep it a secret and doesn’t stop the lovers. After he and the Nurse chastise Romeo for his cowardness, the Friar says to Romeo, “Go, get thee to thy love, as was decreed./Ascend her chamber…”(3.3.146-153). Despite Romeo’s murder of Tybalt, Friar Laurence continues to aid him. Had he been an adult, he would have stopped caballing with Romeo and urged the Prince to pardon him. To conclude, The Friar in his cowardice allowed Juliet to die. Upon finding her and Romeo and Paris’s corpse he says, “ I dare no longer stay,” further proving his cowardly nature (5.3.171). The Friar is afraid that he will be caught in the tomb,as is forbidden, so he quickly runs out of the tomb and leaves Juliet alone. As an adult, he should have been more brave and help Juliet get out of their. Instead, he ran like a
The person to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death is Friar Laurence because he kept their secret and helped them be together. He was also the one who married them in hopes of ending the feud between the Capulets and Montagues. He also made many mistakes that caused his plan for Romeo and Juliet to go wrong. He trusted someone to deliver a note of great importance to Romeo, gave potion to Juliet, and he fled Juliet’s tomb instead of trying to help her. All of these mistakes would not have happened if Friar thought out his plan a little more.
Some people say that Friar Laurence was responsible for Romeo and Juliet`s death however it is not his fault. The letter was sent from Friar Laurence but Friar John was delivering it. Friar John had returned back to Verona and said to Friar Laurence “I never got to mantua”. (Act 4, Scene 2). Friar Laurence only had good intensions he never wanted someone to get hurt he was just trying to help end the feud. Friar Laurence had gave Juliet the sleeping potion so she didn’t have to marry Paris. The word had gotten spread out to Romeo in Mantua that Juliet was dead. Romeo had got back to Verona to see Juliet and he had killed himself in the tomb next to Juliet his last words were “Now with a kiss I die”. (Act 5, Scene 5). Friar Laurence was only trying to help Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence wasn’t responsible for Romeo and Juliet`s death. The Capulets do not know that Juliet is already married to Romeo.
Have you ever wondered who was responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, who killed them in that cave that night? I believe Friar Laurence was responsible for their deaths and the sadness brought to both families. Friar Laurence thought that by marrying Romeo and Juliet would end the feud between the Capulet and the Montagues. The Friar was also the one who came up with the plan to fake the death of Juliet, then her and Romeo could run away together. He also ran away when Romeo killed himself and Juliet just woke up that then ended in a tragedy.
While Friar Laurence has done a lot of good in this play, he has also done some bad too. The first time we see his bad influence is after Romeo comes to ask to marry him and Juliet. When it looks like Romeo can't convince Friar Laurence, the Friar says "In one respect I'll thy assistant be;/For this alliance may so happy prove/To turn your households' rancor to pure love."(2.3.90-92) This shows that while Friar warns Romeo that this love is a bad thing, he goes along with it to maybe reunite the families. He manipulates Romeo and Juliet in this way and uses them as pawns in a larger game. The second time we see the fault of Friar Laurence is when he comes to the grave of Tybalt/Juliet after Romeo has committed suicide and Juliet has awaken. Juliet wakes up to the scene and sees Romeo's dead body, and then the Friar tells her to "Stay not to question, for the watch is coming./ Come, go, good Juliet. I dare no longer stay."(5.3.158-159) Juliet refuses to leave, then the Friar runs away. Friar Laurence knows that he should have stayed and not let Juliet kill herself, but he does not, because he knows he did wrong by marrying the
To start off, the book Romeo and Juliet had a lot of ups and downs for the two love birds till their death. Shakespeare created this play and the words he used had multiple meanings behind them. In every scene or most scenes, a new conflict would arise. Everything in the play was well balanced and for every conflict, there was a resolution. The real question behind this play is who were the people to actually blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death? I will tell you my opinion on who I think is at fault for their death.
Romeo and Juliet had many events leading up to their deaths. Other than events, people are to blame for the deaths of many. Three suspects would be Friar Laurence, Lord Capulet, and Romeo. Each of them have at least one thing for the cause, and the effect was death. If you looked closely one of them had the most impact. Who do you think caused the death of a pair of star-crossed lovers?
I think that Friar Lawrence, Friar John, and Lord Capulet are to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence is the pastor that marries Romeo and Juliet. He plays the role of a person that Romeo and Juliet can confide in. He is not on either side, the Montagues, nor the Capulets. Friar John is Laurence’s brother, who doesn’t play much of a role in till the end of the story. Friar Laurence gives the note for Romeo to Friar John, and tells him to bring the note to Romeo in Mantua. Lord Capulet is Juliet’s biological father, who does not play much of a father in Juliet’s life. I believe that they all three are to blame in the deaths of both Juliet, and also Romeo.
Some people may believe that Juliet is responsible for the deaths of herself and Romeo. Their argument could be that she caused the tragedy because she willingly went along with Friar Laurence's faulty plan that unraveled into destruction. Although this did occur, it did not ultimately lead to the suicides
There are many people in “Romeo and Juliet “ who attributed to their deaths. In fact, Friar John is one of the people who attributed to Romeo and Juliets death. Also, Lord Capulet is a controlling King who lead to the two lovers death. Lastly, Friar Lawrence tried to help end the feud , but it lead to the death of Romeo and Juliet. All and all, the death of Romeo and Juliet was caused from Friar John, Friar Lawrence, and Lord Capulet.
