Curley’s decision to hunt Lennie down for the murder of his wife is one circumstance in which a character’s morals are deemed more important than the laws that govern society. Curley is furious when he finds his wife dead at the hands of Lennie. He decides to hunt Lennie down and murder him in cold blood. When asked if he would like to stay back with his wife and grieve, he says, “‘I’m goin,’ ... ‘I’m gonna shoot the guts outta that big bastard myself, even if I only got one hand’” (98). Even
Although it doesn’t sound like a sacrifice, it is. George had to kill Lennie to avoid being confronted by Curley and Carlson, who were both set on killing Lennie themselves. George knows that when he kills Lennie that he and Lennie will finally be at peace, when he quotes on page 106, “No Lennie, look down there acrost the river, like you can almost see the place.” This shows how George knows that when Lennie dies, he will live on in the peaceful place that he and George had imagined. George had to sacrifice Lennie for his own well being, and it was definitely not an easy thing to do, especially considering everything they had been through. Life isn’t always fair for people.
After Lennie kills Curley 's wife he is fated to be punished for his actions. Curley wants revenge, decreasing the chances that Lennie will be spared and sentenced to jail time. Due to Curley’s tendency to act violently, Curley would brutally murder Lennie to avenge the death of his wife. Lennies options aren’t good “Curley’s gonna shoot ‘im… [or] they lock him up an’ strap him down and put him in a cage. That ain’t no good” (97).
From all of the characters in the story, I feel the most for Lennie. Going along with the literary technique of naturalism, the fact that Lennie has a mental disability is because that is how he was born. There is nothing you can do that can change your heredity, and people judge Lennie on that all the time. George is the main culprit when he says that everything would be easier without having Lennie around. We all know that, but George doesn’t have to tell Lennie that to his face to make him feel worse about himself.
How is the importance of home or friendship conveyed throughout the novel? “Friendship improves happiness, and abates misery, by doubling our joys, and dividing our grief” – Marcus Tullius Cicero. In the novel “Of Mice and Men,” by John Steinbeck, characters are struggling to live prosperously through the Great Depression. In the beginning of the story, the author describes most of the characters to be isolated, and forgetful of the value in friendship. Due to the lack of friendship and a surge of loneliness, many choose to become bitter and mean in an attempt to fend off irrational emotions and rather work like machines.
First, loneliness is the sadness caused by having no friends or company, and friendship is a state of mutual trust and support between people, they are polar opposites, yet a person may acclaim to have both. For example today a person may have a friend, or many, but still will face loneliness in their life in one way or another. This is shown in Of Mice and Men periodically throughout the novel, knowing this the reader is challenged with such themes, the enticing beauty of friendship between George and Lennie, and the gloomy dreaded idea of loneliness shown by Curley’s wife, Candy, Crooks, and again Lennie. Among these characters the reader may also feel a connection between themselves and the characters, even though the world now and during the publication of Of Mice and Men has changed a lot. The world has reformed, and developed exponentially so, however friendship and loneliness is still a facet of everyday
I think this isn’t because, the ghost of the king said, “Till the foul crimes done in my days of nature” is meaning he did some bad stuff when he was alive that he is not proud of (DOC.A). Also in the Treatment of Gertrude, hamlet accidently killed Polonius thinking it was the king spying on them in front of Gertrude, before Polonius dies he says “O, I am slain!”. Right after that Hamlet told his mother, Gertrude, that the new king killed his father, she didn’t believe and told him to be quiet that she couldn’t handle it. After that happened Hamlet sees the ghost of the king again, saying that “To speak to her, hamlet” (doc.
He knows what the other men are going to do to him. He finds Lennie, puts him in his happy place and kill him before anyone else could. Since George cared so much about Lennie 's death was less tragic than it would have been if the other men found Lennie. Curley 's abandoned his wife showed her little love and compassion. She was lonely and sought attention from anyone who would talk to her, leading to her death.
Another instance in which ‘you get what you give’ is experienced is when Heck Tate covers up Bob Ewell’s murder to protect Boo from the public eye. Mr. Tate was wise enough to know the punishment for killing innocent people, as experienced from Bob Ewell and Tom Robinson. Heck saw first hand what happened and how it ends for Mr. Ewell. Secondly, it was again karma for Bob as his murder was merely shown as ‘clumsy drunk Ewell fell on his kitchen knife and died’ no one would know the truth about his murder and even in his death no one would have sympathy for him or try and stand up for him. Even in death Bob Ewell’s fate got to him, he will soon be forgotten and any memory people have of him will be the rude drunk of Maycomb, as he was.
The definition of conflict is a serious disagreement or argument. It can arise in many scenarios, but it is up to you on how you will handle it. In the story Fault In Our Stars, it shows how one girl copes with having cancer and living her life to the fullest. “Hop Frog” is about a king who is rude and abusive to his servants so he comes up with a plan to kill him and his friends. “Tell Tale Heart” involves a man killing an elder because he had an “evil” eye and it creeped him out.
Consequently, because of this mental illness Lenny did not understand the full repercussions of what he did or the suffering it put him through. Based on this, my client realized that even if they ran away Lennie would still have to live with the painful effects of his illness. As a result, he performed the act of a mercy killing. A mercy killing is essentially an act by done one person designed to end the life of another who is suffering from extreme pain or an incurable illness. My client killed George out of love and compassion.
The author makes it seems as if Fortunato is a bad guy especially because he’s trying to kill him to find out later Montressor was crazy. 5. A theme statement for “The Cask of Amontillado” is to encourage readers that revenge doesn’t get you anywhere because after it done you’ll have a strong feeling of regret. In the short story Montressor kills his friend and it wasn’t worth it at the end of the day because he started feeling
I inched closer, and closer, with him still screaming at me to stop or he will be forced to shoot. But I was not worried. This was “lazy Joe”, of all people; he would be the last person in this prison who had the guts to actually pull the trigger. I actually love the guy for it, but it would result in this being his death scene. I finally was standing face to face with Joe.
George found out and goes to find Lennie before anyone else. So he can have the last moment before he George does something that ends their friendship along with the troubles from Lennie. “And George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie’s head the hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied he pulled the trigger the crash of the shot rolled up the hills and rolled down again Lennie jarred, and then settled slowly forward to the sand, and he lay without quivering” (Steinbeck chpt 6). George ends up killing Lennie himself. This must of been very hard for him because even though Lennie was a hassle, George remembers when they were together and how they had hopes and dreams of having a farm together and that they had a good
He must do everything for Lennie. “You never had none you crazy bastard. I got both of ‘em here. Think I’d let you carry your own work card?” He even told people what his name was so that Lennie did not mess anything up. If also took an emotional toll because he killed his best friend so Lennie did not cause anymore trouble like he did when he killed Curley’s wife.
