Reflection might lead to insight about something not noticed in time, pinpointing perhaps when the detail was missed. I believe reflection reaches the parts other forms of thinking can’t reach. Effective reflection on practice is thought to generate nursing theory and answers questions that develop nursing practice (Schön, 1983). However, there is lack of empirical evidence to support on the use of reflection in nursing. Schön, (1992), had describes two types of reflection, which is reflection in action and reflection on action.
Overall GRADE strength was moderate. There was found to be moderate-strength evidence that hourly rounding programs improve patients’ perception of nursing responsiveness and overall patient satisfaction. Hourly rounding: a replication study (Olrich, Kalman & Nigolian, 2012)
Chlorhexidine has been proven to prevent surgical site infections when used as directed but many patients do not complete the three-day regimen. Patients complain of skin irritation that range from mild to severe. Change Model Overview The Star Model of Knowledge Transformation formally known as the ACE Star Model, is a model used in evidence-based practice (EBP) processes and approaches.
During the care of the obstetric (OB) patient throughout labor, delivery, and postpartum, obstetric departments work to provide safe outcomes for mothers and infants. To do so, nurses must be prepared to act upon any adverse event associated with increased maternal or neonatal morbidity or mortality. However, staff are challenged to implement evidence-based practice when these events occur so infrequently. This is especially challenging for nurses who are new to obstetric care and have little, if any, exposure to adverse scenarios or events.
CHAPTER 2 : REVIEW OF LITERATURE 2.1 REVIEW OF RELEVANT STUDIES The emerging themes noted throughout the research were safety of mobilization of critically ill patients, the effect of bed rest and various methods of repositioning on LOS and the effectiveness of a nurse-driven mobility protocol. Nursing staff or physical therapists can provide early mobilization in the ICU; however physical therapists are not always available in ICU. Any measure of mobility milestones in the ICU must be feasible, valid and reliable across both nursing and physical therapy disciplines. A previous survey suggested that few physical therapists use any specific instrument to evaluate mobility in ICU (Skinner, Berney, Warrillow, & Denehy, 2008).
Recently the advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) became a very important profession due to the major changes in the healthcare system and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) goals that focus on providing patients with affordable but quality care, improving patient health outcomes, expanding care to the underserved areas, and lowering the costs. It became apparent that over the years nurses played an important role in healthcare system. According to the National Governors Association (2012) “The demand for primary care services in the United States is expected to increase over the next few years, particularly with the aging and growth of the population and the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA)” (p. 1). In addition,
There is a sharp impact of unsociable hours of work on the health and performance of nurses who are partner of 24 hours working society since ages. It is important for the policy makers of health service organizations that personal, socio-cultural and environmental perspective of the nurses be given due attention. Shift planning should be arranged in such a way that it does not create any physiological and psychological stress. Policies should be worked out for effective napping techniques and to improve the environment. The provision of effective facilities as given below can help the shift workers to cope
Introduction Nurse is an important job in this century. In the early years of nursing, nurses take up simple roles to provide care and assisted the sick for their activities of daily living. As the development of healthcare industry advanced, nurse’s roles have expanded. Nursing as a career has evolved over the years. Nurses are taking up more expanded roles compared to last time.
Patient satisfaction is considered an essential component of patient-centered care. Patient-centered care and patient satisfaction are viewed as core nursing values, as proposed by early pioneers of nursing, such as Florence Nightingale. It has been found that improvements in management, training, job satisfaction, employee empowerment, as well as decision making were needed for hospitals to improve their performance in patient safety, quality of care, and patient satisfaction (Leggart, Bartram, Casimir, & Stanton, 2010, p. 2). There is a limited understanding of how nurse satisfaction impacts delivery of care and patient outcomes.
Our material invites for additional interpretations, however due to the limited scope of our research we have not been able to further unpack and indulge in it. Moreover, we acknowledge that we are not able to determine the managers identities based on single interviews. Nevertheless, during the interviews the managers constructed themselves in ways we understand through the concept of a nursing managerial identity. In addition, we recognize that we are not able to determine to what extent the nursing managerial identity can be understood in the light of their nurse background. In our thesis we have treated the nurse profession as internally heterogeneous, but we accept that the values of care, loyalty, and altruism, which is generally associated with the nurse profession, may be a way to legitimize the nurse profession rather than illustrate an actual ‘truth’.
The consequences of oral health diseases are significant and adversely impact quality of life for millions of Americans each year. The nondental health care professionals have the potential to play a significant role in addressing the oral health needs and reducing oral health disparities. This article presents an interprofessional faculty tool kit that builds upon The Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice as a framework for preparing professional nurses with basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes in oral health promotion and disease and injury prevention across the life cycle. According to author barriers to quality oral health care is inadequate education of health care professionals in basic oral health .So to improve to this there is an addition of more content with in the course.
The purpose of this review of literature article was to create a conceptual framework model of practice recommendations and interventions that can be used to acknowledge the benefit of expanding nurse practitioner scope of practice (SOP); develop a uniform nationwide consensus APRN SOP; and reveal evidence that shows that poor patient healthcare outcomes can occur as a result of restricted NP scope of practice due to barriers created by either physician-related, political, and/or organizational opposition. According to Poghosyan, Boyd & Clarke (2015) over a 4-month period articles were used to build the model. Policy papers, research studies, including original research and reviews, and reports focused on nursing workforce in the United
The transition from an Associate Degree (AD) nurse to a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) is a rewarding time during a nurse’s career. There are many reasons why nurses return to college to get their BSN degree. Some return to meet a personal goal others return for professional advancement or are mandated by their employer to do so. Over the past few years many organizations stopped hiring AD nurses or drastically reduced the number they hire. Many AD nurses who delayed returning to school regret not doing so sooner when they realize the wealth of knowledge gained from getting their BSN degree.
