Can Americans Still Achieve the American Dream? There are many Americans who try to achieve the American Dream every single day. There are many barriers that prevent the American Dream from being accomplished by normal members of society. The three biggest barriers that prevent Americans are, lack of educational opportunities, lack employment, and negative living environments.
Americans are achieving goals and success by shedding blood, sweat, and tears, obtaining the American Dream. The American Dream is a belief that Americans use to say that they can achieve anything no matter what position they are in or what race or where, when you were born. The American Dream has been around for a while, and it has had different meanings to different people over the years. Achieving the American Dream takes hard work, dedication and commitment. Anyone can achieve the American Dream because everyone has equal rights and freedom if you make the right decisions in life.
I came to America with my mother, brother and sister to achieve the American dream. When I first came here I did not fully understand the extent of challenges and obstacles that my family and I had to face to make our dreams reality. My family has been struggling financially since the first year I came to America, which became my motivation to pursue a higher education. On my last year of high school, financial crisis threatened my family so much that I was ready to drop out of high school to help my single mother cope with the burden of financing the whole family on her own. My brother had finished his high school before me, so he decided to take a year off before going to college to support my family.
For me, the American dream is a concept of regardless of who you are, you can achieve your objectives and accomplish your career aspirations. The American dream to me is that regardless of who you are, whether it’s race, gender, sexual orientation, abled-bodied, or of the many categories that make you unique, is that you have the right to pursue happiness, prosperity, and the freedom to chase your dreams. The American dream to the American people and all who live in it is the desire to create a better future for oneself and future generations. It represents the opportunity to embrace education, pursue one's passions, and carve out a fulfilling and prosperous life, while honoring the sacrifices and dreams of those who came before.
Introduction Miriam-Webster (n.d.) defines success as “the fact of getting or achieving wealth, respect, or fame”. To me success is not money, possessions, or the illusion of happiness. How the world defines success is much different than how I define success. Rick Warren, in his book “Purpose Driven Life” (2002, p.19) says “You could reach all your personal goals, becoming a raving success by the world’s standard, and still miss the purposes for which God created you.”
“Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.” This is what Kevin Durant, one of the greatest basketball players of all time, who is replete with athleticism, said when asked about his talent and work ethic. Some people are lucky enough to be born with a natural talent, and some are lucky enough to be born with an unbeatable work ethic. Now it’s when someone is born with both is when that person is in the luckiest situation possible. But having both is not everything.

Do Americans really think that if they do supplied with with money falling at their feet they will never be successful? No matter what a person’s cultural background is, or what language they speak, or what city they come from, there’s a single ideal that anyone living in America can understand: the concept of the American Dream if they actually want to succeed. People today do not understand working hard is the way in today’s world to succeed the American dream.
2.1.3. INTRINSIC AND EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION Motivation in work is often described as being “intrinsic” or “extrinsic” in nature (Sans one & Harackiewicz, 2000). Thus, it is possible to argue that the variables affecting motivation have intrinsic and extrinsic motivational effects. As the question of how to increase employee motivation focuses on one or more of those variables mentioned above affecting motivation, we can also conclude that any incentive tool, whether it is monetary or non-monetary, is designed to provide extrinsic or intrinsic motivation or both. In the psychology literature, intrinsically motivated behavior is stated to arise from innate psychological needs, such as needs for competence and autonomy (Deci & Ryan, 1985; Kasser
Flexible Work are terms used to describe a wide range of work styles and employment practices. Broadly speaking, they are used to describe all kinds of employment which differ from the traditional 9 to 5 full time job with a permanent contract. The "flexible" aspect of these type of jobs can in different instances relate more to the employees, or to the employer, or to both. That is, from the employee’s point of view, flexible work may allow more freedom to organize their employment to fit in with other parts of their life.
