1. INTRODUCTION
Almost before 2500 years ago, the Greek physician Hippocrates stated that “let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”, this expression is triggering the interest of consumers and nutritionists toward food again, thus the prevailing belief about ‘food’ is that it is just consumed to meet the body requirements and satisfaction and certainly to dumb the sounds of hunger, but nowadays the consumers come to be more educated about the importance of food for health improvement and disease prevention, and are constantly interesting and oriented to ‘balanced diet’, ‘functional foods’ and ‘optimal nutrition’.
1.1. Functional Foods
‘Functional foods’ is a recent field that has been generated at the end of the last century as consequence of numerous researches have proved that food in addition to the basic nutritional content, it includes a lot of phytochemicals (nutraceuticals) that have been documented to play an integral role in illness therapy (El Sohaimy, 2012).

Amidst of hassles and struggles of our modern day, we are unable to eat healthy meals. Actually, many people do not even have time to prepare meals. Yet, our bodies still need sufficient amounts of various food groups for them to remain healthy. It is for this reasons that many people have turned to buying nutritional supplements. This way, one can still have their health in check even when they are running against time and on tight schedules.

Relevance between Food and Humans with Rhetorical Analysis In the modern industrial society, being aware of what the food we eat come from is an essential step of preventing the “national eating disorder”. In Michael Pollan’s Omnivore’s Dilemma, he identifies the humans as omnivores who eat almost everything, which has been developed into a dominant part of mainstream unhealthiness, gradually causing the severe eating disorder consequences among people. Pollan offers his opinion that throughout the process of the natural history of foods, deciding “what should we have for dinner” can stir the anxiety for people based on considering foods’ quality, taste, price, nutrition, and so on.
Today’s society is surfaced with various problems, one of them being our diet along with obesity. The health of our country’s people has become a national problem. One’s diet is based upon their choices, but even then there are many controversial views upon what is healthy and what is not. Two essays that I read uniquely present their views on this topic. First, there is “Food as Thought: Resisting the Moralization of Eating” by Mary Maxfield and then there is “Don’t Blame the Eater” by David Zinczenko.
In recent decade, the United States has seen supermarkets continuously get filled with packages labeled with things like “Low sodium” or “No Trans Fats.” Companies stick these labels on their food to match the current fads of what is good for you and what is not. In his essay Unhappy Meals, Michael Pollan advocates a return to natural and basic foods, and deplores nutritionism. Pollan argues that nutritionism does not actually tell people what is healthy or not, and that the only way to be sure you are eating healthy is to eat natural, fresh food.
Though an immensely important aspect of food is a nourishing supplement; it is not the sole significance of food in human’s lives. Food is symbolic. Food connects people. It is a collective activity everyone must experience; thus meaning it allows people to relate more easily between each other. There is no universal type of food in each society due to the fact that the world is multicultural.
“What should I eat” “What am I eating and where in the world did it come from?” These are the questions we often ask every time we buy our food. What is it made of and if they are healthy or not? I am one of the “healthy crazy people” that will search for every single content of the food before I buy it. I always look for the “Nutrition Facts” - calories, fat, cholesterol, sodium, and carbohydrate.
By quoting food experts, each notion of food appears credible, logical and well researched, whilst proceeding in a consistent
Everyone grows up eating what their family eats, and winds up enjoying the nourishment their family provides. Men, women, and children, raised from their heritage and food preferences, will continue on for generations. Yes, they will branch out and try new products, possibly adding them to their diet, but they will always find the food of their culture as comfort or ‘homey’ food. Therefore, food is a major part of cultures all over the
Food is required in order to live as well as maintain a healthy lifestyle. Potassium, fiber, fat, calories, sodium, along with a bunch of vitamins are required for human body. “Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food” (Hardy, 2006). The Greeks followed this idea by the philosopher Hippocrates, but today’s society does not take the message seriously. A majority of people eat harmful foods and do not receive the nutrition they need to stay healthy. There are a number of reasons why nutrition is lacking. A lot of teens and college students eat snacks that are not healthy such as chips, pop, candy, etc.
Everyday food Abstract The article discusses the role of food as an instrument of identity and a channel of contact through cultures. This is discussed drawing from three cases of Italian food culture hybridization spanning from the early 20th century to the first decade of the 2000s: the role of Italian food in Italian-American identity as depicted in Leonardo Coviello’s work; the meeting of Southern and Northern food cultures following the Italian internal migrations in the ‘50s and ‘60s; the food practices of international migrants in the context of the global flows of people and commodities in present day Italy. In this regard, food plays an essential role in the rebuilding of a familiar context in which migrants can feel temporarily
