Given articles reveal some statistics and views about the future of the English language which is competing for the dominant language in recent years. The main purpose of the article is to predict about their role as a major language which is spoken by majority of the world population for the time being.
What is language? Language is a means of communication. English language is very common and an important language. What will it in the future? There are given some scholars’ hypothesis. In 2050 English will develop or disappear. Chinese, Urdu, Hindi, French, Arabic are rising as English declines. The language of the internet will dominate. Only few people speak in English as a first language. Firstly, Mr Katinas supposes that the role of

Osler’s prediction than the other. Because this language does not change suddenly. There are written many books in English and it has many speakers. Internet language has a great influence our life; conversely, it does not become scientific language. Having learnt all details, every person can be in two minds about the future of English. Personally, I experienced the same thing when I read three given articles. Initially, the arguments the authors raised seemed pointless, but later on they began to mean me something. The facts such as the simplicity of Chinese grammar, future increase of Arabic, the amount of printed magazines in English and the official language of historical Achaemenid Empire were completely new to me. Most of all, I was shocked when I disclosed that Chinese is used as equally as English on the Internet. Weighing down every meticulous detail, I became more aware of the current position of English.
To put in a nutshell, I partly agree with the theory that English can lose its place in the future. In this place, I use some evidence to prove myself. Nowadays, the number of students taking IELTS and TOEFL exams are ever increasing. Moreover, the most prestigious universities acknowledge certificates of English and the educational language in most countries is in
A research . shows that people using a website has developed a new way to read called skimming. They don't read word from word instead they just for one page to another. In the end, he describes how we need to teach our minds how to understand longer passages again. Furthermore having the opportunity to transport the internet with you everywhere allows
In this course we learned Mens rea and Actus rea which means a guilty mind and the guilty act, although he did the guilty act did he really have a guilty mind while doing it. Another example is the third article it tells us the story of the three former railway employees who were acquitted from criminal negligence. Throughout the third unit we learned what criminal negligence was an all the different types of negligence you can be charged for. In article 5 it showed us that the accused was granted a trial without a jury which is something we learned in class. Another example of these articles being so closely related to the things we learned in class is article 6, in the article the author is bashing Alex Jones for spreading fake news and not taking responsibility for it.
Carr sees this change as dangerous; he has lost his ability to immerse himself in his reading. Fortunately for Carr, he is a “Digital Immigrant.” Unlike the youth of this generation, referred to as “Digital Natives,” the Internet has merely stunted his practice of deep reading, whereas the Digital Natives never learned
Despite, the changing, deploring effects alternating and hinder our cognitive reading habits, Carr suggest technology has proven our society reads more today than in past history (Carr 317). Of course in past history, television was a medium, however, their cognitive ability to read on deep levels appeared not to be altered. In addition, the internet is the largest, continuously streaming pool of knowledge ever built in the world which adequately supplies you with the ability to seek, research and surf more information than one brain can process. Inadvertently, causes reverse comprehensive engagement thus, leaving concentration of long pieces of writing the thing of the past (Carr 315). In agreement with Carr, Maryanne Wolf, a developmental psychologist with Tufts University, narrative of Proust and the Squid: The Story and Science of the Reading Brain also, suggests we are “mere decoders of information and our ability to interpret text … form mental connections from deeply reading is disengaged” (Carr 317).
He discusses people are not doing traditional reading anymore. “A form of skimming activity, hopping from one source to another and rarely returning to any source they’d already visited.” People only read the contents pages and abstracts online and they jump one page to another. Some of them may save an article, but they never go back to read it again. Due to the internet, people start to change their reading habits and they only want efficiency, I think it will make us lose the chance to gain new knowledge.
Maryanne Wolf, a developmental psychologist at Tufts University worries that a style of reading that puts “efficiency and immediacy; above all else is weakening internet users capacity for deep reading” (Carr 287). Never has the internet has had such a huge influence over society’s thoughts as it does
I have become very dependent on the internet. I have used the internet ever since sixth grade, and till this day, use the internet every single day. When Carr gave evidence from studies performed in the University College London about how people “… read no more than one or two pages of an article or a book before they would bounce to another site” (93), I find myself doing the same and only skim through articles and passages. Due to the fact that I depend on the internet, I also find myself difficult to focus and ‘deep read’ a book. I tend to skim through the pages or read the same page over and over again until I remember what I just read.
Carr says, I’m not the only one. When I mention my troubles with reading to friends and acquaintances. For example, “The more they use the Web, the more they have to fight to stay focused on long pieces of writing.” According to Carr some bloggers have stopped referring to print sources for information overall. It may be possible that the Internet is just more convenient.
People are not reading they are skimming through the Internet. Although people are reading more today on the Internet, it is not a deep reading as if they were to read a book. Another negative effect the Internet has had on our society is by increasing
In order to fully comprehend a written work, one must learn to read critically; which in turn, requires learning to think critically. Critical thinking and reading are essential skills one must have to be successful in learning and growing to their fullest potential. Acquiring these skills allows you to think independently, dissect and evaluate the credibility of a work, and determine the relevancy of the information you are being presented. In his nonfiction work, How to Read Nonfiction Like a Professor, Thomas C. Foster explores this idea by giving examples of recent events in American journalism and providing thought provoking commentary on the bias featured in media.
It becomes evident that as people use they internet more and more, they begin to lack the patience and ability to commit and figure out the meaning or main idea of a book or even a complicated
When people want to do a research or complete reading a book it is impossible for them to accomplish that goal because their mind is focus on many things. Among other things, In another study scholars from the University College London did an experiment to see how things work on the internet and how it affects us. They examined computer logs to see how people would use the internet and record the behavior of visitors. People that access journals, articles, e-books, and any other written source were being tracked down to see how they managed their time using it (Carr 595). It turned out that people were skimming or bouncing around different pages (Carr 595).
According to this statement the readers can conclude that the main reason for reading concentration disturbance is the internet. In terms of the scientific research, the article provides the research by the British Library and U.K educational consortium which states “They found that people using the sites exhibited ‘a form of skimming activity,’ hopping from one source to another rarely returning to any source they’d already visitied” (Carr, 2008). From this statement we can understand that there are numbers of attractive information piled on one page, people have a hard time choosing which one to read, resulting them to skim and jump to one another. From these couple examples, it can be concluded that the author of this essay is strongly attempting to convince the readers in his idea of internet disturbing people’s concentration. However, the essay itself is extremely biased, because of the fact that there is no information about benefits of using the internet and reading online.
Language is an important part of our life. Language and communication cannot separate. People use the language as a means of communication to express their ideas and feelings. They communicate either with each other using language in every social interaction; communicate with others directly or indirectly in the spoken and written form. Therefore, language is an important thing of communication in social life.
English as a global language We can’t deny that English has become an international language for communication between all mankind , it is the common language between most of the countries , English is a global language which is spoken as a native language and a second language in most of the countries , and we noticed that people who use English as a second language are way more than people who speak it as a native language , it is taught in every country in this world , it is using as a medium language of understanding between the teacher and the learner , you can see it in banks , supermarkets , in road signs and in international web pages, it is the language that you see and hear every day, so speaking English become a must , also we can’t ignore the fact that English is the language of global communication at medical , tourism , trade and other elements of language use , So English is so important in our various lives aspects. So in this essay I am going to discuss the reasons of how English become a global language and is it a good or bad thing? and what is the advantages and did advantages of spreading of English? There is a lot of reasons that helped to make English a global language and one of the most important reasons is policy , the west colonization for the countries had helped English to spread and distribute by imposing the language and the west culture on the colony countries , so we can say it is all because of the strength that the west had on the world
