Violence, war, and shootings. That is all that is on the news these days. Does America really need more wars and attacks or or should America hope for a peaceful future. GI Joes are becoming a bad influence on children because they promote violence against in children, show them that war is fun, and children need to be using more educational toys like Legos anyway.
GI Joe toys are promoting violence in Americas young children. During the Vietnam War Americans saw fit to take war toys off the shelf, in order to prevent the corruption of little kids minds. In December of 1887, Hasbro decides to bring them back on the shelf for consumers. Deb Ellis says, "The entertainment industry romanticizes war. War toys show violence without pain, and movies that show violence is a virtue, with handsome, heroic men perpetrating it." She also states that children have little power. Toy guns a and soldiers give them that power and make war seem safe and fun.

Guenter Lewy in 1978 estimated 1,313,000 overall casualties in the Vietnam war alone. Do we really want this to happen again? No, of course not! Some people even believe that Hasbro should be sued for trying to convince children to partake in violence. The New York Times also said that " ...even though children are playing with toys of violent nature and having fun, they are also preparing for future wars." Some people might say that GI Joe toys can show kids what it is like to grow up and be leaders. This may be true but does America really need leaders that choose death and violence when asked to protect
They also do not have to live with the fear every day, wondering whether they will be killed or not. While reading an article from the New York Times, it has mentioned that rebels would just rip children from soccer fields to fight. They are considered the perfect weapon being easily manipulated and are considered fearless and loyal, unlike adult soldiers. (page
War plays with a soldier 's mind in terrible ways. War is not the best method for solving problems. It should honestly be the last method the government goes to. It is not the best way to prove that one is right or wrong. You play with a man’s life and if he comes out alive he is scarred forever.
War is very unhealthy for children and other living things. People want the world to be together and in peace. These days and in the past, the universe hasn’t been so peaceful: There has been war throughout the world and soldiers throwing nuclear bombs, or bombs in general, such as the USA throwing two nuclear bombs on Japan in August 1945. At the start of the Vietnam war, everyone that lived in Vietnam was scared including younger and older children. They all had to hide underground and make sure that no one would see them.
Sternheimer begins with introducing us to a “first person shooter” game called “Doom”(214). With this multi-billion dollar game industry rising, she points out that there are three school shooting cases that the press emphasizes the shooters being “video-game experts” (215) to the game Doom, only making the “critics’ predictions” (214) about video games come true. Sternheimer begins by explaining how video game violence has become “folk devils” (214). This term allows media and politicians to “channel the blame and fear to remedy what many believe to be a growing problem” (214). Politicians are one of the main factors in targeting video games as the leading cause of violent behavior in teens, according to Sternheimer.
Question 1 This ‘controversy’ is not always a controversy, sometimes I wish it was maore of a controversy. When the President and the entire Congress is held by one party there is not usually and friction between the two branches. The more divided the exective, senate, and representatives are the more party politics and friction play a role.
Adolescents who are forced to be in combat have the most destructive beginnings to their childhood. Throughout history children have been used as weapons not only to kill, but also to psychologically injure their enemies. Child soldiers are taught militant ways of life, to follow orders without question. The key to their survival is to follow all their duties. If child soldiers disobey, they will be killed by their “comrades”.
War would be considered futile for many reasons including the fact that it splits families up. “Get out. And don’t come back until you come dressed as my son, not as a stranger.” (Collier and Collier 22). This quote from the book is representing how war split the Meeker family up.
Over the last decade our Countries gun violence has increased dramatically. Each year the percentages keep rising. The Gun Violence Archive numbers say that in 2017, gun homicides are rising faster in some cities than they are falling in others. Something needs to happen with gun control. In author Paul Waldman article it stated that “Over 30,000 Americans dead every year, and tens of thousands more maimed and paralyzed.”
Joe wants to have a “sign over himself and the sign would say here is war and he would concentrate the whole war into such a small piece of meat and bone and hair that they would never forget it was long as they lived” (Trumbo 215). Nonetheless, the government would never show Joe’s body to the public as Joe wants them to. The truths of war would only cause permanent damage to the minds of the public. Therefore, they manipulate the public and soldiers by not telling them how horrendous war actually is. All in all, the government uses manipulation and propaganda through abstract ideas to lure Joe into
Small hands, belonging to children, wrapped around a gun, fingers on the trigger. These guns aren't toys being carelessly held while playing a game, these guns are loaded with deadly bullets held steady by a child soldier. Their eyes filled with fear, looking for a target so they don't become one. Their minds aren't thinking straight, the line between right and wrong is disappearing due to the drugs, alcohol and, lies flooding their brains and flowing throughout their small, growing bodies. They are unaware of their actions, they were manipulated by rebel groups to kill.
She believes that wars strip soldiers of their value and that no human being should experience the horrors of
Violent video games have been blamed for everything from bullying to school shootings. Critics of these video games believe they cause people to commit violent acts in real life. These critics, mainly comprised of parents and other responsible adults, don’t agree with what the video games portray. Others say the video games cause less violence and are an outlet for anger and stress. Although violent video games have violent actions in them, teenagers should be able to play violent video games because there isn’t enough evidence to prove they make teens more aggressive, it could prevent violence, and violent video games are a fun and relaxing way to relieve stress and anger.
A recent content analysis by the research organization Children Now shows that a majority of video games include violence and about half of the violent incidents would result in serious injuries or death in the "real" world. Claim1 Research involving British primary schoolchildren found that the length of time young people spend playing games, rather than their content, could have an effect on their behavior or school performance. But it concluded that fears that generations of young people are growing up with their development impaired by exposure to violent video games are no more likely to be borne out than previous “moral panics” over television and other media. Playing one-player games is not always negative if you do it moderately.
For many teenagers in our world today, playing video games may be a huge part of their daily lives. In contrast, many individuals think playing violent video games will not be safe for kids. However, research has shown that video games have solved some of science’s biggest problems. Teens could someday cure diseases. Also, kids who play violent games are being “exposed” to what war may be really like.
There are games that literally replicate and give people the ability to score points for doing the very same thing that these students are doing inside schools, where you get extra points for finishing someone off who’s lying there begins for their life.” ( 6) There are several ideas that say young people benefit from these violent video games “Surprisingly, playing video games can help our physical, mental, and emotional health.” It helps them to improve hand eye coordination and thinking ability. These benefits are not worth the risk of being influenced by violent video games. (7) All in all the research and officials say that violent video games affect how children, teenagers and young adults act.
