The question “What is a serial killer?” can thoroughly be dissected; but to keep it simple a serial killer is a person who murders people due to abnormal psychological gratification. Serial killers date back from the time of 144 BC. Prince Jidong would go on wild expeditions of killing his subjects and stealing their belongings purely as a sport. Years later, the spree of killing still countinues. In the 1970’s, America was introduced to who would become the worlds most famous serial killers, John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy. As a teenager he began stealing things from others. Bundy didn’t recieve enough attention from his family and never grew to have people skills. It was when Bundy left for college and fell in love he was at the peak of his life. Sadly it didn’t go well. Around this time many women began to go missing. His actions were not condonable in any way and as a result he should receive the law’s fullest extent of punishment for what he did, which at the time was the death penalty in Illinois. As someone who had done something as horrific was murdering and raping thirty-three people, there was no amount of rehabilitation Gacy could receive so that he could fit into society. Furthermore, he had already served jail time for sexual assaults prior to his murders and already had a second chance in redeeming himself in the public eye. Attorney Karen Conti, an attorney working for Gacy, even said that “he was the poster child for the death penalty,’’ and that “everyone said: ‘I don’t believe in the death penalty, but for Gacy, yes.’” Thus, I feel that the death penalty was suitable for John Wayne Gacy’s malicious
In fact, Bundy wasn’t extremely intelligent, and was not a genius, he only had an IQ of about 124, and he was not wildly successful in school, he was an average student who actually failed out of college after being dumped by a girlfriend, though he did return to school at a later date and finish (Michaud & Aynesworth, 2000). Even so, there was something that everyone could agree upon, Theodore Bundy was a deranged sociopath who became famous for murdering all of his victims, he was one of the serial killers to become extremely famous because of his killings, and some would say that he seemed happy to be getting all of the recognition (Michaud & Aynesworth, 2000). With articles written about him titled, “Bundy: The Man, The Myth, The Legend” he had truly become a legend (Caputi, 1989). These are only a few examples of how the media portrayed Bundy and how that caused the public to see and talk about

In the article, “Greg Ousley Is Sorry for Killing Parents. Is That Enough?,” by Scott Anderson proves that some young individuals may act violently for certain matters because of how their parents treat them. It is unclear as to why juveniles and adolescents automatically go into extreme measures, however, this may be caused by lack of support from their parents. Anderson asserts, “What Phillips couldn’t see was that Greg’s behavior masked a rapidly deteriorating home life, where he was now the sole focus of his mother’s rage. Almost daily, Greg told me, his mother would rip into him about something- his grades, his appearance, his choice of friends- ferocious tirades that often culminated in her telling him, “I know you’re going to leave me just like your sisters did.”
The police did not even notice he was gone until 16 hours later, but it was too late because he was already miles away in Florida. The second escape, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, he just walked out the front door and no one stopped him. Killing another seems very unjustifiable, which might be the case but when someone takes another 's life and sent to prison, death row or capital punishment is needed to put that person were they belong. People like that deserve to die because of their mistake of killing another and it deters other people to not kill others, showing them what would happen. In the case of Capital Punishment, Hunting for Sport, or George and Lennie, killing is a justifiable act. In the case of capital punishment killing is justified and needs to be done. For example, “Some crimes are so inherently evil they demand strict penalties up to and including death”(McClatchy).
