INTRODUCTION:
The Ganga river is the longest river in India. It is also the trans-boundary river of India and Bangladesh. The GANGA is the most sacred river to Hindus and is also a lifeline to millions of INDIAN who live along its bank and depend on it for their daily need. The Ganga basin is the most heavily populated river basin in the world, with over 400 million people and a population density of about 1000 inhabitant per square mile.
QUALITIES OF GANGA RIVER:

INDUSTRIAL DRAINS:
Industries are the main source of pollution in Ganga River. Many industries are built near ganga river. According to the data, there are 146 industries which are built near ganga river and release their wastes to the river every day. These industries include leather industries, tanning industry, pharmaceutical companies, electronic plant, textile and paper industries, which releases different types of chemical and organic effluent into river. Chromium is a toxic chemical used in tanning leather.
CITY DRAINS:
Another source of pollution in ganga river is city drains. Many people are polluting the river by throwing garbage like plastic bottles, plastic shoppers and other waste into river. City
Adding copper pennies to the vase helps preserve the flower and help it live longer. A copper penny could be used as an antibacterial agent. It helps the flower stay alive longer because the copper prevents the fungi from growing in the inside, which could kill the flower. The help of the penny copper means that there will be none or limited fungi which is one factor why the flower could die faster.
The colorado river was a big help to irrigation, but often gave problems, the river frequently welled to a current that swept over its banks and flooded land for miles making difficult for irrigators to function. When floods occurred the sediment-laden river clogged the water canals and the Diversion headworks. This would cause the water maintenance and the delivery of water to have problems making it difficult for irrigation to function properly. The heavy floods would often leave a disaster, damaging the head works, buildings, and levees. Building new ones or even repairing them would often cost a lot of money.
My 8th grade class went to the Conodoguinet creek to test if there was any pollution in the creek water. “The Sacred Headwaters is a subalpine basin in northern British Columbia, Canada” (Wikipedia). The Sacred Headwater is ecologically important for several reasons. To begin with, the region has three wild salmon rivers. It also contains many other wild species such as grizzly bears and stone sheep (Wikipedia). More importantly, “The Sacred Headwaters is rich in mineral and energy resources, particularly coal and coalbed methane”(Wikipedia).
In addition, the pollution spread into the water as well, all the waste within the factory had to be removed. Instead of properly disposing of the waste, it was dumped in the rivers. By doing this it contaminated the river, causing people to become ill. “As countries industrialized, they also urbanized. This was a result of people moving to cities in large numbers in order to gain factory jobs” (Document 6).
The 2009 documentary River of Waste, directed by Don McCorkell, attempted to encourage the people to make sure to have a cleaner river and not to litter it with trash. They are trying to encourage you to keep a clean river. It would be better to have a clean river and not one littered with garbage. One where people throw away the trash and recycle any type of cans or plastic. Not throwing it in the river because that would kill a lot of fish and make the river look nasty.

Another major pollutant of the New River is waste runoff, from both humans and animals. House builders have to be very careful when building septic tanks and sewers to ensure that no waste will leak out. Cities need to have good waste treatment plants to keep water clean. Everybody who lives in this river basin is responsible for keeping the river clean and pollution-free.
Industrial waste can also create polluted runoff that collects in rivers and lakes. Another reason for water pollution is chemically treated sewage. By the 1850’s inhabitants began experiencing epidemics of cholera and typhoid. In 1969, chemical waste releasaed into Ohio’s Cuyahoga River caused it to burn into flames and the waterway became a symbol of how insutrial pollution was destroying America’s natural resources. Aditionally, mining activties also affected water pollution by increasing the amount of toxic elements released into the environment.
MAJOR PROBLEM: SINGAPORE WATER SHORTAGE ISSUE Short history of Singapore: Singapore gained independence on 9th August in 1965 from the merger with Malaysia. After its separation from Malaysia, Singapore faces major problem in many areas. Singapore is a small island of area size of 718.3km square. Given her limited land capacity, Singapore face a severe lack of natural resources such as water. In the ’60s and ’70s, Singapore was heavily reliant on imported water from Malaysia and faced urbanisation challenges such as polluted rivers, water shortages and widespread flooding.
2.1 Urbanization and river water quality Due to movement of people from rural to urban areas, physical growth of the urban areas occurs, which ultimately leads to the urbanization, Over the past several years, river systems have always been extensively altered to meet various human demands, which led to them becoming the most intensively influenced ecosystems by human activities on the Earth (Nilsson, et al., 2005 )]. ‘’Among these human activities, the influence of urbanization on river systems was the most significant, and 60% of river systems were changed profoundly because of urbanization in the world’’ as cited by (Nilsson, et al., 2005 ) Recently, a number of studies have been done to understand the effects of urbanization on river water quality. The study manifested on Pearl River Delta Economic Zone is in China, that there is a positive correlation between the rapidity of urbanization and the pollution levels of urban river water.
LITERATURE REVIEW What is water pollution? As the country is becoming more and more populated, the demands for social services have increased significantly. This has led to an increase of the pollution in many developing towns such as Ga-kgapane. The most disturbing and problematic forms of pollution in Ga-kgapane is the pollution of the natural streams. Water pollution is when there is a build of one or more substances in water to such an extent that it causes problems for animals or plants.
Water is the most important component found on the surface of the earth because it is source of life for living creatures. However, water pollution has become a global concern. Water pollution can have several forms from diverse sources. It is expected that there will be a lack of clean water in next few decades due to pollution. Nile river water in Egypt is the focus of attention of many studies due to many reasons.
