INTRODUCTION:
The Ganga river is the longest river in India. It is also the trans-boundary river of India and Bangladesh. The GANGA is the most sacred river to Hindus and is also a lifeline to millions of INDIAN who live along its bank and depend on it for their daily need. The Ganga basin is the most heavily populated river basin in the world, with over 400 million people and a population density of about 1000 inhabitant per square mile.

Industries are the main source of pollution in Ganga River. Many industries are built near ganga river. According to the data, there are 146 industries which are built near ganga river and release their wastes to the river every day. These industries include leather industries, tanning industry, pharmaceutical companies, electronic plant, textile and paper industries, which releases different types of chemical and organic effluent into river. Chromium is a toxic chemical used in tanning leather.
CITY DRAINS:
Another source of pollution in ganga river is city drains. Many people are polluting the river by throwing garbage like plastic bottles, plastic shoppers and other waste into river. City
