Gender equality is a human right. Every single woman is entitled to live in dignity and freedom. Empowering women is also an essential tool for advancing development and reducing poverty. Empowered women contribute to the health and productivity of whole families and communities and to improved scenarios for the next generation. However discrimination against women, including violence, economic discrimination, health inequalities, abusive treatment from spouses, remains to be one of the biggest forms of inequality. According to these examples women like being treated equally during the Vedic era, but later on their power started to go downhill, with Manusmiriti and Islamic invasion of Babar Empire. ” This is a huge slap to the face to women’s rights because, child marriage takes away little girls life, years to get education and enjoy life, which unfortunately did not happen and her life might have become abusive. Domestic violence is still a big problem in India, it is believed that the biggest act of violence towards women in the country is the domestic violence. The reasons for that are aggression taken out on women by ‘strong’ and ‘dominating’ men. Some reasons for domestic violence might be alcohol or as mentioned previously the fact that mother gave a birth to a girl and not a boy. There have been fatalities in domestic violence against women in India, and precautions were taken, now that if there is a brutality to a woman because of a domestic violence spouse will be imprisoned. One of the main reasons of violence against women is the mentality which deems women inferior of men and merely limits their importance to the maintenance of the household, the upbringing of children and pleasing their husbands and serving other members of the family.
