What is womenonics, and why is this an important term to discuss in Jordan’s employment of female workers? Womenomics is a term that was originated by the Prime minister of Japan, Prime Minister Abe. Womenomics is used to describe the economic contributions of women and the roles taken on by women in society. Many nations around the world view women in the workplace as unacceptable fearing that women will not handle both work and the traditional roles of marriage and family rearing while maintaining a job. Some 95 percent of female adults are literate, and more Jordanian women attend university than men. Despite these advantages, fewer than 16 percent of Jordanian women are employed or looking for a job” (“Why Is Jordan”, 2016). These statements prove that Jordan is aware of the importance of education, equality and the quest to improve its economic standing in the world. The ruling class specifically Queen Raina, has been vocal about the objective to equalize the economic opportunities in Jordan. (“Why Is Jordan”, 2016) Womenomics relates closely to this misuse of women in the work force in Jordan. Women have been marginalized and discouraged from working due to traditions in Jordan’s society as well as the ideals solely of the males in the families in Jordan. It would be helpful if this was not the determining factor for the lives of women in Jordan. Women should be seen as free and equal citizens in Jordan. That would be the first step toward change. This would allow women the freedom of choice to determine for themselves how to live their lives. There can be no equality if the choices for women are determined by men. The educational system needs to be improved overall to better prepare the people of Jordan to better their circumstances. This would include more positive ideas put in place for females that choose to later enter the workforce. This would enlighten the minds to the idea that women are capable of making choices as well as maintaining a family and work life. Better opportunities need to be provided for women that choose to enter the workforce. They can even place jobs into their work system geared toward time frames that are looked upon by the people as suitable for women to be a part of the workforce and not interfere with family life. Women should be allowed to have ownership of their finances and property to increase the family well-being. All of which stems from allowing women equal rights in society in
