Gender Equality in Russia

There is a prevalent idea in Russian society that men and women should behave according to some unwritten standards. However, it is the country’s women that are affected much more by discrimination. What kinds of problems does this create in daily life?

In Russia, since the beginning of the Soviet Union, gender equality has been an issue. The Bolshevik revolution and the Soviet Union Constitution gave women guarantee rights, however the Russia Government has not kept part of their deal. Unfortunately, the male citizens of Russia still have the say and the majority of the right in the country. In the workforce, the Russian government has tried to resolve this matter by prohibiting gender discrimination, however this law was never passed.
In the 1930s, the Russia government stimulated more industrial jobs to aid the economy causing more opportunities for women to work to help with production. Although women were still getting underpaid compare to men. Still, the future was finally starting to look good for them. Unfortunately, in 1965 Kosygin reform came to change everything. Women were encouraged to leave the outside work to their man, and just tend to their families. In the 70s, Russia started to give out financial aid to families with three kids or more, causing those families with no kids to start having kids, in order to increase the low birth rates at the time.
