Gender Issues In Society

In society, there are many gender stereotypes. Women are seen only to be capable of being housewives and men are expected to act a certain way due to their gender. Men are supposed to act tough or behave in a way to show their masculinity. Therefore, the central issue in society is that boys and young men face is that they will be taught to do the same thing older men do so they can be just like them. There are three sources that prove this problem, one being an essay, another an excerpt, and the last in a column in a newspaper. In this essay, there will also be a solution to mend this issue. The first given source which is an essay titled, “Being a Man” dictated by Paul Theroux. In this essay, it states that “for any boy who expresses the desire to be alone, seems to be saying that there is something wrong with him.” Ergo, this could imply that even if a young adolescent wants to be left in loneliness is considered to be judged and seen differently because boys are supposed to act a certain way with others to express their manliness. Theroux also claimed, “I wanted to be a writer. It was my guilty secret because being a writer was incompatible with being a man.” This can suggest that boys are taught to do activities only boys ‘should’ do, writing not being among those simply …show more content…

In this piece of evidence, it states, “I’ve been thinking that maybe I should play sports at school.”...“Maybe girls will like me if I play sports.” This is something Walker’s son had talked to her about when he came home from school one day. This could suggest that there is not only one sex being a problem to this issue. Girls themselves make boys feel like they need to be manly and join a sport for them to notice the boys. In teenage years most girls only are attracted to these type of guys and the boys who are not like them feel the need to change who they are entirely just to get a girl’s
