What is Geoinformatics?
Geoinformatics is a science and technology of gathering or collecting, analyzing, interpreting, distributing of geographic information. Geoinformatics is comprised of many fields and has a broader and wider base. It comprises fields or disciplines of GIS (Geographic Information System), GPS (Global Positioning System), remote sensing and survey and mapping. It is the intermixing or synergy of photogrammetry, remote sensing, gis and remote sensing.
It is a collection of hardware and software components which are used basically to store, manipulate, manage, distribute and analyze the geographically referenced data. It includes both spatial and non-spatial data.

Injudicious exploitation of ocean resources may cause ecological imbalance. In addition to this, oceans play an important role in climatic changes influencing monsoon that decides the economic development of our country. Remote sensing technology is extremely useful to study and manage the ocean resources. RS and GIS applications area has extensively used this technology for the following purposes:
