The first two that I mentioned, Balanchine and Kirstein were the founders of the New York City Ballet. George Balanchine was originally born in St. Petersburg, Russia and was invited by the young American patron and support of the formation of a new American dance academy of ballet was Lincoln Kirstein. Mr. Balanchine was one of the last great choreographers under Sergei Diaghilev in the Ballet Russes. He suffered a knee injury In 1934 at the age of 29. Lincoln Kirstein sent for him and he came to America and they opened a school called the School of American Ballet in New York City. This school still exists today and I actually went to that school myself when I was fifteen years old at Julliard. During his term at NYCB which was from 1948-1983.
Kyam Livingston was a 37 year old mother of two, from Brooklyn, New York who died under police custody in July of this year. During an escalated argument with her elderly grandmother, over alcoholic consumption police were called to the scene. Prior to this altercation, Livingston had made an agreement with her grandmother, a legalized order of protection that was established prohibiting alcohol or fighting in the household. When police arrived she was immediate arrested and taken to King County hospital where she was given treatment for her intoxication. About 8 hours later she was taken to a holding cell in in Brooklyn to wait arraignment.
Jochem Schoonmaker was a member of a family who came from Germany and Holland and settled in the colony of New York in the early 1600’s. He married Lydia Rosencrans in 1730 and together they had fifteen children. He was a farmer and his descendants continue farming his land to this day in the hamlet of Accord in Rochester. An early 18th century farmstead bearing his name is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

But he found work in photography in berlin and found he loved the art of photography. He moved to france from germany and found and changed his name to Robert capa to make him sound more American.
Allen Hirsch is a well known portrait artist, better known for his love with a capuchin called Benjamin. The story I am about to describe is from a documentary from New York Times, called Long Live Benjamin. While visiting his wife’s hometown in Venezuela, he unexpectedly fell in love with an orphaned newborn capuchin. His wife was first to find Benjamin, without any food or water and took care of him, thinking that they would hand over the monkey to animal services. However, the love between Allen and Benjamin grew stronger and Benjamin became a part of the family.
