George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Virginia. Washington was the oldest of Augustine Washington and A. Washington's second wife, Mary Ball. They had six children together, although Augustine Washington had three children previous to George Washington and his five siblings. Soon the family moved from their original home up the Potomac River to what is today Mount Vernon. Then they moved again to Fredericksburg, Virginia, this is where Washington spent most of his childhood. Little more is known about Washington’s childhood, and from this ignorance sprang many myths. It is known that; his father died when he was eleven years of age, and assuming that his mother was already deceased, he was placed in the custody of his mother,
