Gil Scott-Heron, an American musician, had once stated that “you know what has made me the happiest I've ever been? Seeing my son and daughter graduate from college. More than wanting them to be educated, I wanted them to be nice people. To see that they have become both is just a wonderful thing.” The wise word of Gil is what motivated me to attend college. Everyone have their own purpose when attending college due to reasons surrounding them. For instance, people pursue college to have a brighter future with good employment while some have the desire to gain better education to support their family. I personally wanted to attend college to gain the honor and respect from my parents’ who sometimes believe that going to college is useless for women. This interpretation of them has encouraged me to become who I am today. I have the intention to make them proud of me just like Gil being happy for his children. …show more content…
They have unreasonably believe that women going to college are a waste of time and money because women will eventually get married, leading to pregnancy which will be a burden for the women to continue their education. However, as I grew up, I have been aware that I can’t just let my parents’ doubt women with no reasonable evidence because they are just stereotyping women. To change their belief, I have this ambitious of going to college to prove that my parents’ were
She concludes by claiming that success of first-born college students is important for us now and for future generations. Margaret Miller writing in the essay “The Privileges of the Parents” goes further and argues that we must encourage especially first-generation students to go to college to avoid a “caste system” in which only the rich are educated. Miller cites statistics that show how educated parents raise children more likely to succeed in school : the benefits “ripple down through the generations”. The main idea from this article is that there are benefits that accumulate to individuals from having a college education.
As a college student who is currently spending thousands of dollars to further my education and achieve a career goal, it was, at first, disheartening to read Caroline Bird ’s essay “College is a Waste of Time and Money”. However, after thoroughly examining her points, I now see that her essay is illogical. In her piece “College is a Waste of Time and Money”, Caroline Bird argues against the idea that “college is the best place for all high-school graduates” (1); in other words, college isn’t for everyone. Throughout her writing, Bird supplies her readers with evidence that explains how, for some individuals, college is a waste of not only time and money, but of intellectual effort, as well.
Every year during the back-to-college season, millions of students across the US purchase countless school supplies for their upcoming semesters. How each student does their shopping is different, with many doing more traditional in-store shopping, and others getting their supplies through newer e-commerce channels using company’s websites. One of the biggest issues back-to-school vendors such as Target face today is competing against online retail giants like Amazon, especially when back-to-school and office supplies is one of Target’s smaller revenue segments. As a result, our goal is to help Target drive these back-to-school sales up, as well as create incentives to bring students back in-store as opposed to going on competitors’ online

Throughout the essay, Charles Murray stresses the idea that college is the wonderland of finding oneself and to find the career that one would want to follow for the rest of their lives. “College is seen as the open sesame to a good job and a desirable way for adolescents to transition to adulthood. Neither reason is as persuasive as it first appears.” Murray, C (2008) Practically spoken, this is not normally the case. College is a fair amount of work, much more work than one would normally acquire through any course of a high school or secondary school setting.
College is one of the most significant times in a person’s life. Every year high school kids will visit many different colleges so that they can be confident in their college decision. Some kids will follow in their parent’s foot steps and base their decision on where their mom or dad went, though, not all kids are fortunate to have help from their parents. Many kids nowadays may be the first in their family to take on higher education. The article, “First Generation College Students: Unprepared and Behind” by Liz Riggs explains that kids who are the first in their family to take on college are at a disadvantage compared to kids with parents who attended college.
Though there are many individuals who believe that college is not for everyone, attending college and getting a higher education can open the gates to many tremendous life changing opportunities such as becoming healthier, begin able to secure jobs, and earning more financially.
Why do I want to attend college? College is an honorary achievement and it separates the determined from the undetermined. Owning a college to degree is an honor and an ecstatic feeling. Through college, that job is that much closer in the grasp. Through college, a person can perform at an elite level and really push themselves for greatness.
The only way to achieve a successful life is going to college and becoming educated. Post-secondary is a big decision most teenagers have to make .The importance of having a college degree could cost you a job. Most people overlook the difference in the amount of pay with having a college degree. Even though debt is the main reasons people steer away from college it can be paid off easily.
A rising issue in today’s society is deciding whether or not college is worth the cost. There is an extreme amount of pressure that is forced upon high school students by parents, teachers, and peers to further their education and attend college. However, there is research that challenges the thought that college is the best possible path for a person to take. College may be a great investment for some people, but it is not meant for everyone. This is supported by the arguments that colleges are expensive, jobs do not always require a college degree, and students are forced to choose a lifestyle before being exposed to the real world.
My family could barely afford gym shoes, so a computer was out of the question. Many in my family consider my educational goal to be a fantasy, nevertheless I remain determined to be the first in my family to earn a college degree. I began my pursuit of higher education in 2002, despite my family’s disapproval. Since my parents were never able to attend college, they found it difficult to understand its value.
August 14th, the day when it really hit me that I would be moving into college in one week. Up until that point I was really really excited! Although I was still excited the nerves started to kick in, I felt that I was not prepared to start a whole new chapter of my life and that there was still so many things that I needed to do, so honestly I started to panic a little bit, but that is just between me and you, no one else knew that I was stressing so bad. The Monday before move in day comes and now I realize that I seriously need to start getting ready, so finally I start packing everything in my room to make sure that I do not forget anything, but at the same time I have no clue what to pack seeing as this is my first time ever packing for college. The day finally gets here, move in day, all at the same time I am nervous, excited, sad and happy.

Leaving home to attend college is in general a big step and for me as an international student, leaving my country Chile was very scary due to the big changes I was going to face. One of the huge diversity experiences I had was when I first came to the United States in August 25th, 2012 and through all my freshmen year. My freshman year was a time filled with some anxiety and wonderful discoveries. First, my roommates where all from different countries (Japan, Canada and United States) and the true is that with the exception of the Canadian guy, I couldn’t get along with them at the beginning. They were different attitude and ways to face a same problem but at the end, we created a good atmosphere in our room and although we don’t live together
so when I start my career I can be prepared. My mother was not able to go to a university when she graduated high school because she became pregnant with me. Because of her struggles, she has always instilled in me that graduating from a four-year university is the most important thing to do in my life. If I went to college, I would have a bright and successful future because I would be fully developed into a responsible and well-rounded young
