The mystery 's over. Melissa McCarthy will come back as Sookie in Netflix 's hit series Gilmore Girls Reboot. She is not only the executive chef at the Dragonfly Inn, she is also Lorelai 's best friend and cheerleader. The announcement was made by McCarthy herself on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. The news came after several reports that McCarthy might be unable to rejoin the Gilmore Girls revival. "Literally, about an hour and a half ago, we figured out that I 'm going to go and do it, and I 'm so excited," McCarthy told DeGeneres. "There was a whole thing, and then I was going to be out of the country, and literally about an hour and a half ago, we figured out that I 'm going to go back and do it, and I am so excited! They 're going to be amazing." There were a lot of things going on which made her fans wonder if she was coming back to the show. In January, when the program revival was announced, McCarthy wrote on Twitter: "...sadly no one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow. Wish them all the best!!" she wrote in early February. However, Sherman-Palladino told EW that they did not ask McCarthy because people from her side were saying she was not available for straight 60 days of shooting. She recalls that when she was asked about McCarthy at the time when the idea of reboot was publicized, she had said, "We 'd say, 'Look, we know you didn 't hear a Melissa McCarthy arc in here because we are not naïve enough to think we 're going to be able to grab her for 60 days of shooting.
