The second Girls Bills of Rights states, “Girls have the right to express themselves with originality and enthusiasm” ("Girls Inc. | Inspiring All Girls to Be Strong, Smart, & Bold"). Girls should be able to be themselves without any backlash from peers or anyone. Society has a bad habit of shunning and body shaming young females. Young girls are vulnerable and will not take criticism lightly, so it is best for them to be themselves. Girls should be comfortable and confident in their image.
The third Girls Bills of Rights states, “Girls have the right to take risks to strive freely and to take pride in success” ("Girls Inc. | Inspiring All Girls to Be Strong, Smart, & Bold"). Freedom, as defined in the Merriam-Webster 's Dictionary, is the quality or state of being free. This means by the root word itself, it is when a human experience being free. However, there are plenty of other definition of freedom and not just by being free itself. In this paper, I will be talking about freedom in relation to my chosen topic, feminism, according to different stands and in different aspects.
Most Americans today either have a smartphone or tablet or even a laptop where they can easily access whatever information they like. Google has been best for that and when a young girl has that access they can see anything and everything they want, the latest trends in fashion and make-up tutorials so they can keep up with the now. Common theme with all of these is how beautiful these people look and how thin they are. They follow their favorite celebrity on Instagram and see how great they look and know that it look good they have to look like them. There are now set beauty goals that girls look up too, whether the parents approve or not, and are comparing themselves too.
Don’t you think that’s wrong? Cause i do, i should be able to walk down the hallway with not worrying about male teachers and students staring at me or touching me. When girls are told to cover up because they don’t want boys to see them as a target their teaching girls to be afraid of boys.
The said to be nature and source of the problem with adolescent girls are the fairy tales that are read to those girls at a young age. “Fairy tales capture the essence of this phenomenon,” (Pipher 12). These fairy tales show adolescent girls that if you go through a life threatening situation your prince charming will come to save you. It also teaches girls that through all of this they transform into “passive and docile creatures” (14-15).
Standards for girls in today's society The American society set standards for girls and young women to follow. Companies are selling products and sexualizing girls at a young age. It's bringing in the culture norms of today’s society. To solve the problem, they should utilize diverse models to advertise many of the products.
When women are uncomfortable with their body, they get taken advantage of by companies trying to sell their products varying from protein shakes, “magic pills”, to surgical procedures (Lin). But all of this can be prevented with six simple themes to address. First, with family, friends, and other relationships, we can further educate each other and work together to come up with alternatives to these linked issues with body image. Secondly, we can put an end to teasing and bullying. No one has the right to or entitlement to emotionally, mentally, or physically harm another person for the way they look.
Girls learn not to value education and not to want it for themselves. We are taught that being pretty is the best thing a girl can be. We are told that being smart is not important, that science and math are for boys who want to build rockets. Being smart is not pretty and boys won’t like you if you’re too smart, so we learn to apply makeup, to style our hair and paint our nails. No matter how much you encourage a girl in school and remind her that she is smart, she’s still going to experience some man dismissing her intelligence or taking credit for her work or being ignored in an office meeting or being interrupted in a classroom discussion.
The theories add on to state that females start to feel that they are not good enough to fit within societies standards, so they are constantly seeking different methods to change their bodies, and, according to Bordo (1993), women are managing their bodies now more than ever
We all know that women didn 't have as many rights as men, and they still don 't. Women can now do more than they used to, but they still aren 't equal with men. They have had to fight for so many things like the right to vote and to be equal to men. The 19th amendment, the one that gave women the right to vote, brought us a big step closer. The Equal Rights Movement also gave us the chance to have as many rights as men. Women have always stayed home, cleaned the house, and didn 't even get an education.
Beauty Pageants are an important part of the American culture in the 21st century. Many women, including small children, strut down the runway, dressing up in fancy clothes and makeup and charm, with the only and clear intention of catching the judges eye. Many claim that beauty pageants are a harmless activity that contestants can get a boost of confidence from. However, the sad reality of beauty pageants sends the message that women, even girls as young as 1 year olds, should be valued for judges for their appearance, and gives unrealistic beauty standards. With shows like Toddlers and Tiaras, young girls are facing harsh realities of adults choosing which child is the prettiest, the most charming.
Let Girls Learn In her efforts to raise awareness for women’s rights at the Let Girls Learn event in early 2016, Michelle Obama, an American lawyer and the first African American First Lady of the Unites States, strategically writes her speech to display the conditions girls around the world endure to live a life without the simple right to an education. She develops her speech through the use of gratitude as a connection to the public, an appeal to pathos and the final shift in tense to establish hope among the people. Together, these strategies allow Michelle Obama to inform the society that they must unite as one in order to effectively and successfully support the education of girls around the world. Obama begins by making a personal connection with the public through gratitude for their endless efforts to assist in the program.
Girls compare they self to other girls , they tend to do this because they feel they are not prettier or popular like others. Young people have an tendency into having a perfect body, Teens will look at pictures of models or most pictures that are photoshopped and that makes a person want to maintain a “perfect body” that would get teens to think that they need to hit the gym to look like the models. This will disorder people thoughts and feelings about themselves. Teenagers tends to look at the bad side of them and not look at the good
Plenty of students in the United States dread going to school and would much rather use this time to play video games, watch TV, or even sleep. But in third world countries, children, especially girls, do not have the opportunity to receive an education. These girls would exchange anything in order to attend school and have an opportunity to be independent, educated, and equal to their male counterparts. Governments need to implement policies that guarantee girls education in order to promote gender equality, boost their economy, and prevent child marriage. Research has shown that educating girls will not only benefit each individual girl, but also their community and country as a whole.
There has been progress, today, more girls and women are literate than ever before, and in a third of developing countries, there are more girls in school than boys. Women now make up over 40 percent of the global labour force. In some areas, however, progress toward gender equality has been limited—even in developed countries. Girls and women who are poor, live in remote areas, are disabled, or belong to minority groups continue to lag behind. Too many girls and women are still dying in childhood and in the reproductive ages.
