Teenagers’ youth are different: Some of them have a good expectation of their future, some of them leave their homes, some of them have fights with their parents, some of them feel confused about themselves, and some of them have a good relationship with their family members. In Sylvia Plath’s “reflection of a seventeen years old”, the life and herself were mysteries to her. Because she didn’t have to take any responsibility, she could go to whatever rooms she wanted and she could also decorate her room with pictures what she liked. In American school, she spoke to no one at school and did not ask before going to the lavatory, and flunked kindergarten. She liked playing with Negro kids because they laughed the loudest and enjoyed talking with her. They also protected her from Japanese kids. She never joined the play in school, because teachers knew that her voice was too soft and nonexistent. After American school, she went to Chinese school from 5:00 to 7:30 pm. In Chinese school, she was like a totally different person. She shouted loudly, and played with friends very happily. When the teacher asked her to get up and recited in front of the class, the voice came out that wasn’t a whisper. She was very different in Chinese school compared to American school, wasn’t it? For Justice, “I enjoyed the silence; There we chanted together, voices rising and falling, loud and soft, some boys shouting, everybody reading together, reciting together and not alone with one voice.” I had same feeling with Maxine Hong Kingston in United States. When I first came to another country to study, I was very lonely. It was hard for me to make friends and understand the other people’s talking. During this time period, I studied to be friend with lonely and developed my own interest. Because of this, I made some friends in school.
