Issue paper: Eric Garner Was Choked to Death for Selling Loosies (http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/12/03/the-policies-behind-eric-garner-s-death.html) Name University Issue paper: Eric Garner Was Choked to Death for Selling Loosies Violations by police officers, noble cause corruption, selective administration, misuse of power, perjury, and many other misconducts leave no stone unturned to make public crazy and exasperated for irrational policing. However, the balance in police’s power and duties remain the question of consideration with the passage of time and it seems to be unresolved.
This then introduces the concept of the glass ceiling ( Gay Bryant, Adweek,1984) which deals with the concept that there is an invisible boundary preventing woman from working up the career ladder. Woman too
Many People in the United States has been victims of police brutality, being accused of committing a crime you did not do just because of how you look. Or, being treated differently just because of where you are from. Regardless of how you look, Police Officers are there to help people, not hurt them. This is affecting many people in the United States, many have been victims or has a relative that experienced this. Police Brutality is using excessive or unnecessary force when dealing with civilians.
I believe community is an important aspect to all our lives. Community builds character and, in some cases, defines who we are. There are different forms of community, such as “community standards” and “community action”, that ultimately bring individuals together whether they agree or disagree with one another. In his book Our Divided Political Heart, E.J. Dionne discusses what community is and its significance to society. Through my writing, I would like to specifically talk about “community action”, “community standards” and “community policing”.
In today’s economy women are moreover subjected to being judged by their age, their looks, or in a lot of cases by the way that they dress. The “glass ceiling” is also a form of gender discrimination. The glass ceiling refers to the invisible barriers that disable women from getting higher ranks because, majority of the upper level positions are passed by them and given to the men in the company. “Sex or gender discrimination in the workplace is defined as treating someone unfavorable because, of the persons sex, whether they are applying for the job or are already a present employee at then establishment. The Equal Pay Act makes it illegal to discriminate on the basis of sex in the payment of wages or benefits.
To prevent such barriers when it comes to women working in Law enforcement one must understand exactly where the barriers come from ("Solutions to Common Barriers for Female Officers | Hendon Publishing", 2018) For example whether the barriers are coming from inside or outside the profession women work. Job promotion and barriers fall between police administration which sometimes it has been hard for women to get promoted. Barriers that woman have dealt with has included gender discrimination and sexual harassment working in Law enforcement. ("Solutions to Common Barriers for Female Officers | Hendon Publishing", 2018)
In the book, “Through the Labyrinth” Alice Eagly and Linda Carli discuss what women face going through the maze of leadership. The authors use evidence and research from real leaders to support their claim. Eagly and Carli discuss the psychology towards to women prejudice, the personality differences between male and female leaders and employees, the obstacles that women have to face at the workplace, and a call to action how women can succeed in leadership positions. While reading “Through the Labyrinth”, I was able to draw connections between the authors of text and my life. First, the authors mention different leadership styles that “fit” male or female better.
Over the last 55 years, the number of women in the workplace has steadily increased to nearly the same number of men. Additionally, jobs that women hold have expanded into roles that were once male-dominated, such as business professionals, doctors, lawyers, etc., and some women have even broken through the Glass Ceiling into senior management and executive roles. However, in spite of various laws and regulations that are in place to protect women in the workplace, women continue to experience various forms of inequality, including unequal pay, fewer job advancement and training opportunities, and stereotyping and workplace harassment. Relevance in anthropology Men and women have played various roles in society since the beginning of time and these roles have evolved over time.
Gender Stratification in The Workplace Over the years, women have fought their way through the various barriers thrown at them by society, they are now more educated, matching male participation rates in the labour force and they are seen to create more opportunities for themselves in the workplace. Despite these achievements, gender stratification still exists in organizations and corporations in the 21st century; this paper seeks to analyze the numerous reasons why women remain underrepresented in leadership positions in the workplace and how this causes a trickle-down effect for other females in non-managerial positions. One of the major factors influencing the progress women experience in their career advancement stems from the deep cultural-infused gender stereotypes associated
There are significant dynamics in the traits and trends of political and eras of policing. With heightened need to secure citizens from law offenders, those who receive police training acquire skills and expertise from the various academies that are viewed as significantly related to their work within the work environment. I opine that community policing, an aspect of police networks creates a workable partnership between the members of the community and police unit as a means of moderate the inherent fear in the people in the event of criminal activities. Conventional policing and community policing are variant in many aspects.
In an organization, the hierarchy usually consists of a singular or group of power at the top with subsequent levels of power beneath them. This is the commonly used way of delegating staff or members of the organization in most organizations. Corporations, governments, and religious organizations are hierarchical organizations with different levels of management, power and authority. The workplace has sometimes been referred to as an inhospitable place for women due to the multiple forms of gender inequalities present (Abrams, 1991). Some examples of how workplace discrimination negatively affects women’s earnings and opportunities are the gender wage gap (Peterson and Morgan, 1995), the scarcity of women in leadership (Eagly and Carli, 2007), and the longer time required for women compared to men to advance in their careers (Blau and DeVaro, 2007).
Specific Purpose: After listening to my speech, the audience will be able to understand the history of the Glass ceiling, what the Glass Ceiling is, how the Glass Ceiling’s existence is ignored by some, and the ideas there are for cracking the Glass Ceiling. Thesis: Women have encountered barriers that block them from climbing the corporate ladder since the beginning of time, and some Americans ignore this ceiling while others come up with ideas to shatter it. INTRODUCTION: I. Attention Getter:
We’ve reached the 21st century, and still women are facing gender bias. Women are facing problems at their work due to gender differences. These problems are of several types, some of which are at the phase before getting the job, in which a male applicant would have a higher possibility of getting the job rather than a female applicant. Other problems face women while they are employed; for example, they might get promoted at a slower rate of that of a man, might get a lower salary, or might be prevented from reaching high positions. This fact is referred to be the glass ceiling.
Over the past 40 years defenders of women’s right have worked hard to assure growth of women's careers, trying to contest what is attribute as ‘the glass ceiling’ which is the invisible barriers that control woman from rising to top positions in corporate context. From the mid-90s European Government firms and private and public organizations have pursued a suit, bringing the recruitment of women at the upper levels of companies. The increasing prominence of leaders like Carly Fiorina, Hillary Clinton, and Condoleezza Rice accentuate the development in gender roles over the last half century. In the first paragraph I will discuss what do you need to be a successful leader and also about how women rises in organizational structures and practices,
