Global Communication Application
“Jettokosta! You know… like a JETTOKOSTA!” I yelled in frustration trying to explain to my friends how much I loved jettokosta or roller coasters as they call it here in America. I grew up born and raised in Salt Lake City Utah but I was also raised in Japan...nese culture. Sitting around a table on the floor with my chopsticks eating rice and speaking in Japanese was what I thought was “normal”. It wasn’t until I went to school that I found out that the way my family did things and how my community did things were very different. Through friends showing me their culture and learning how to differentiate English language from Japanese language I gained a huge appreciation for diversity. As a child growing

I love finding how people view the world and learn how they arrived at these conclusions. It is amazing to me how everyone is different and come from different backgrounds. I believe that through communicating across many different cultures and understanding each other we can progress. I feel like a lot of time we have untapped potential only restricted by language and culture. Through these communication classes I would love to gain skills to break down barriers built by myself and others. I have always been so interested in communication it will be great to be able to learn terms and reasons behind the concepts. I would love to be able to learn others opinions on them and share …show more content…
I never want to stop learning about people from different places. I have had many opportunities to gain leadership experiences through being an Eagle scout, SBO Vice President, Assemblies Coordinator, Utah Ambassador of Music, Utah State University Ambassador, and USUSA Director of PR and Marketing for Diversity and Clubs. I love leadership and working together with groups. One of the most amazing things to watch is a team learning a new skill or how to work together and applying that and succeeding. Something I would love doing is helping companies teams with their leadership and teamwork skills. Ideally this would be amazing to do between America and
In the article “My “Oriental” Father: On the Words we use to Describe Ourselves” Kat Chow explains her opinion on her father’s choice to continue to use the word “oriental” to describe not only himself but anything of the Asian culture. Chow’s father, originally from Hong Kong, moved to the U.S. in 1969. He opened an oriental restaurant in a Connecticut suburb, but it eventually went bankrupt. The author explains how her father using the word oriental made him out to be looked at like a “caricature of a grinning Asian man with a ponytail and buck teeth.” Kat shares a story of when she was working at her father’s restaurant.
As soon as you understand more about a person, you can be more empathetic and understanding of different cultures. I come from a Hispanic and German background so I have had the chance to enjoy multiple cultures already. Yet, experiencing and learning about new cultures is important to create better more understanding
The first year seminars interests me the most because I would be able to take a class on something I was never able to in high school, out of the current courses offered I am most interested in Racial
As for my leadership I hope to improve on what I have already. Being a leader on sports teams before I have learned a few things. One is that being a leader is never about yourself, it 's about getting everyone involved and listening to what others have to say. Also even though you are called a leader doesn 't mean you know everything, so if you’re ever stuck on a hard decision fine some help; never stop learning. I make sure I always remember these two things for my leadership.
I love to learn about history and other countries in World Studies. Above all I love to learn more about Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit, and the Bible through Christian Studies. I show leadership because of many reasons. When we are put into groups in classes or at my youth group, I lead the rest of the group, keeping them on track and doing what we are supposed to. I have led the tech team at my church for our middle
I have attended several leadership camps and seminars, but there is always room for improvement in regards to leadership abilities. Having a higher leadership role than what I already have will significantly improve my knowledge of leadership and better refine the leadership skills that I already have. There are a lot of
Without the knowledge of what culture is and does, we as a society would be lost. In the essay, “An Indian Father’s Plea” by Robert Lake, the author takes to explain to his audience that your culture can greatly impact your perspective of others. For example, when the teacher Wind-Wolf a slow learner, the father writes a letter explaining why wind-wolf is not, but in fact the opposite. The author said “If you ask him how many months there are in a year he will probably tell you 13. He will respond this way not because he does not know how to count, but because he was taught by our traditional people.”
At first I wrestled with where my identity lay. The strong values and traditions of the Indian culture sometimes made it difficult to fit in with the crowd. As I grew older, I began to understand that I was not part of an individual culture, but a fusion of two rich and colorful histories. I recognized that there is remarkably more to an individual than where she comes from, and more to her than where she currently lives. Importantly, being from two cultures allows me to incorporate the best qualities of both.
It helps me defined how I think of myself and shapes many experience I had; therefore, it has shaped who I have become. I am very proud to be who I am and of the culture that I have been born and raised in. Even though, everything is different in custom culture and religion I am honor to still be one of them. For me personally, it seems that I must always prove myself to educators. I must show them that being a member of a minority doesn’t automatically make me different from others.
There will also be room for growth and improvement in each skill that you learn. My leadership skills that I have managed to learn will continue to be improved and honed all throughout my life and those same skills will become a major factor in all aspects of my future.
I have been blessed with many great opportunities in the past three years to serve and increase my leadership skills. I have played soccer for my high school, and was voted Team Captain of the varsity team by my teammates. I absolutely loved growing closer to each one of those girls, and being an example to them both on and off of the field. In high school, I have balanced my membership in eight different clubs.
How was the world interconnected in the early modern period, according to the introduction by Pomeranz & Topik? In what ways did the non-Western “peripheries” still have influence in their economic roles? The world was interconnected in the early modern period by trade. Many different countries traded goods with each other, and adapted different cultures and traditions.

The two key topics in class in the last weeks, for me. Two of the most relevant topics developed in the last weeks were: non-verbal communication and the barriers to communication. Everytime we communicate with another person or group of people, we have to take into account some factors other than what we are actually saying that can affect how the message is going to be received: body language, tone, intonation, facial expressions, and others; this is what we understand for non-verbal communication. As we saw in class “55% of communication is body language, 38% is the tone of voice, and 7% is the actual words spoken.”
Introduction: Languages and interactions are two principal concepts in present days. Being master in using and perceiving the modern methods of communications at works furnishes us with intellectual tools which we cannot afford to reject. With the expanding of organizations in the world and working internationally the needs of understanding other cultures and new ways of dealing with others become a key aspect of competitive advantages for any organization. Any organization regarding to meet its objectives and goals; assigns some written or not written norms, values, culture and behavioural patterns which should be understood and pursued by all the co-workers. This will create an employer image in labour market locally as well as in the international business market.
