Global Sustainability Goals And The Catholic Social Teachings
The Global Sustainability Goals created by the United Nations , as well as the Catholic Social Teaching themes, help to provide a sturdy foundation for the mission of La Roche College. This fact has been evidenced through the repetitive success of a multitude of La Roche College alumni. The connections made between one’s education and the UN Global Sustainability Goals and the Catholic Social Teachings give students the start they need to make a difference and be successful in the world. The United Nations Global Sustainability Goal of creating a world in which there is no poverty is extremely broad, yet arguably the most important of the seventeen goals. It encompasses a wide variety of topics, including much more than a lack of financial surplus and stability. It also includes a lack of nutritional necessities, something most people take for granted on a daily basis, as well as the inability to be formally educated. The Catholic Social Teaching theme of participation goes hand in hand with the idea of a poverty free world. This theme states that all people …show more content…
Melissa Altman, a former communication and design major, is currently serving as a missionary in El Salvador. She became interested in the varying countries around the world after getting to know members of the international student program. This, as well as her volunteer and community involvement, were what led her to the missionary field. Eric Ferguson, who graduated from La Roche College with a degree in psychology, used his skills to create a nonprofit organization that provides a variety of services to countries in need of aid, including the creation of orphanages, schools, and churches.
