Global Warming's Effect On The Environment

Today, every human lives in a mere assumption that the Earth is too big a place for any of us to have any harmful or lasting impact on its environment. The further we move into the future, the harder things are going to get for each one of us. Like Al Gore mentioned to us in the movie that ‘our future generations will be complaining to us why we never took steps to stop the harm we were causing to our environment’. The first question that arises in our minds is “What harm are we causing to our planet Earth?” The simple answer to which is “GLOBAL WARMING”. But what is global warming? Global warming often termed as the “Green house effect” is the increase in Earth’s surface temperature due to the emission of gases such as carbon di oxide from…show more content…
Risks for infrastructure, risks for ecosystems, risks for fresh water resources and food production, but only steps to build resilient societies can reduce these risks. A few impacts global warming has on the environment are- 1. Physical- It causes an increase in the global mean temperature relative to the pre-industrial levels. Some other effects include global mean sea level rise and ocean acidification causing floods to coastal areas and affecting marine life. Global warming would be irreversible for several millennia. 2. Ecological- Climate change already poses a significant risk to vulnerable systems. Example Arctic ecosystems and coral reefs. Risks to these systems are large even with a small increase in temperature. 3. Social- Sectors affected by Global warming include food security, water resources and human health. Impacts will be uneven within and across different countries. Climate change increases the risk of many negative impacts such as reduced crop productivity and urban flooding in coastal…show more content…
Changes in the corporate world- A large portion of carbon-di-oxide emission occurs due to business activities such as transportation. The energy usage in corporations also have an adverse effect on the environment, also there excess usage of resources such as plastics and other non renewable resources lead to burning of fossil fuels and emission of carbon gases causing an increase in the temperature. These impacts lead to various issues, which are faced in the corporate world such as- 1. Uncertainty- The first problem that every business firm would face is uncertainty. They can never be certain as to what climate change would affect the business environment and will have to become more strategic with contingent plans. 2. Crowded-Due to the excess change in the climate, residents in places with high temperatures will become uninhabitable due to excessive heat and drought. Also people living in the coastal areas will have to migrate due to the increase in sea levels. 3. Disrupted economy- The change in the climate will cause a huge disruption in the economy by causing a problem in lesser infrastructure growth, growing population and less food production, which will leave most of the population hungry and landless. This will cause a civil unrest and people are going to be very unhappy. All these impacts will leave the government with no choice but to take action to manage these emissions to control climate
