The world and technology are constantly changing, bringing both positive and negative aspects of life. Globalization is the process by which the world is becoming more connected. However, globalization is a natural and cannot be stopped. “Globalization has produced a new level of interdependence among us. Consumerism is a virtue because popular culture makes people desire to buy things, hence the individual will try to work hard to earn money to purchase those things. For example, companies such as Nike, Adidas or Apple would never be successful without customers buying their merchandise. Later on, they will try to bring their products to different countries, reduce the cost and improve their products to suit the customers’ demand. Slowly these companies will dominate the marketplace. This current version of globalization needs to seek for new improvements as the world is developing continuously. Fairtrade can help local farmers and workers to maintain their lives and reach their potential because fair prices are paid to producers in developing countries. The fair trade movement promotes global trade that benefits small local farmer and not completely overshadowed by large corporations. It allows farmers to increase their exports and even at a higher price without restricting their economies in this manner.
In addition, to improve these situations of labor abuse, we need a group of inspectors from the government to check with these factories unexpectedly. After that, they can report it back to the government. If they do not follow the rule, the company has to pay a certain amount of fee. By doing this, hopefully, there will be less labor/worker abuse.
In conclusion, the negative effects of globalization outweigh the positive aspects. Our current version of globalization is poor and there’s need to be new improvements. Globalization pollutes the environment, affect cultural diversity and left many countries behind while TNCs dominate the market and enjoy their success.
