Who knew how messed up Greek Gods and Goddess were?
Poseidon’s origin was messed up because of his father, Poseidon is the God of the Sea, Poseidon absolutely hates Odysseus for stabbing his son’s eye out. Poseidon’s parents were Cronus and Rhea. One day Cronus decided to swallow Poseidon and his brothers and sisters. There were three big Gods and were the most powerful. Poseidon’s siblings were Hades, Demeter, Hestia, Hera and Zeus. Poseidon was famous because he made the first horse.
Poseidon was the God of the sea. Zeus, one of his brothers, is the God of the sky. Hades, who didn’t even get a chance to pick what he wanted to be the God of, but of course had to be the God of the underworld. Poseidon’s symbols were the

This powerful god is Poseidon, god of the sea, he tries to ruin Odysseus ’s journey back to his home, Ithaca. Odysseus
Poseidon married the sea goddess Amphitrite. They had many children like the merman Triton, the Nymphs Rhode and Benthesicyme and the twin giants Otus and Ephialtes. He was bad-tempered with a moody that can change every minute. He was also considered the greediest god among all the Olympians’ gods and always seek for revenge once insulted. Poseidon was a Greek god of the sea, earthquakes and horses, he also ruled the Mediterranean Sea and the black sea. This means he is the ruler of the sea. He was worshipped for navigating people at sea and for being a fertility god. Poseidon’s powers include, creating storms, earthquakes, floods and summoning sea monsters. He is the second son of Cronus and Rhea, he is also the brother of Zeus, Hades, Demeter, Hestia, and Chiron.
Odysseus was used to receiving hospitality back at his homeland, Ithaca, so when he arrived on the Cyclops’ island and did not receive the same treatment, he did not know how to react. But at the end of the day, Odysseus still manages to defeat Polyphemus, who is a god. But then Odysseus faced Poseidon’s wrath because he disrespected his family. Odysseus realized what his fate was going to be when he blinded the water god’s son: “A god may even send a great sea-monster, the kind that famous Amphitrite rears. I know Poseidon wants to do me harm'' (5.421-423).
Poseidon is one of the most known Greek gods throughout Greek myths. It is said that Poseidon controlled more then just the sea he also was able to control earthquakes droughts, rivers, and even floods. Even though Poseidon was one of the more powerful Greek gods he tended to have a bad temper as there are various stories about Poseidon some have even said he gave humans the first horse. Poseidon had a stormy and violent nature but also was stubborn. Poseidon's palace deep in the ocean then sought after a wife to bear his child.

Some people think Poseidon is a villain because he is powerful, aggressive, and brave as stated in the Odyssey by homer, but he is not a very good villain. To begin, Poseidon is powerful. As stated in the text, “A curse on you , little greek , and on all your companions!” roared the Cyclops, shaking with rage.

The family of Poseidon dates back to the B.C. era. Poseidon’s mother and father were Cronus and Rhea, who were Titans. His siblings were Hestia, Hera, Zeus, Hades, and Demeter. After the gods defeated the Titans, the world was divided into three parts; Zeus was given the skies, Poseidon received the seas, and Hades inherited the underworld (“Poseidon”).
Odysseus and poseidon had a problem, because poseidon supports the trojans, and odysseus was a member of the greek war. They defeated the trojans in battle. Odysseus also causes problems with his anger. He is a very physical person, and an angry one. He will fight you if you get on his bad side.
In book 9, when Odysseus blinds the monster, the cyclops prays to his father Poseidon, and says “ If I am truly thy son and thou art indeed my father, grant that Odysseus the conqueror of Troy-the son of Laertes-whose address is in Ithaca, may never reach his home!”(Homer, 111) It is shown that one of the reasons that Poseidon hates Odysseus is because he blinded his son.
Odysseus continued to mock Polyphemus as he loaded the Cyclops rams onto the ships. Polyphemus became angry and revealed that Poseidon, the god of the sea, is his father and will prevent them from ever getting back home. Because Odysseus wanted to add insult to injury, he
380-381, 384). By revealing his true identity to the Cyclops, Odysseus unknowingly curses himself and his crew for the rest of their journey. The Cyclops is a son of Poseidon and the god performs countless acts which continuously setback Odysseus and his men on their journey home. This is a perfect example of when Odysseus is overcome with fame and can only think for himself.
However, Zeus saw the two sides of the gods’ feelings towards Odysseus. “‘Great Odysseus/ who excels all men in wisdom... it’s the Earth-Shaker, Poseidon, unappeased,/ forever fuming against him..’” (1.78-83). Zeus created an equilibrium so that Poseidon could take out his anger on Odysseus through punishment, and Athena receives the duty of making sure Odysseus gets home to Ithaca.
Throughout his voyage, Poseidon delayed him of returning home by providing strong storm on the sea which caused the ship to destroy. Poseidon did not only delay his homecoming, but made him face different dangers and also saved him from the Trojan war. Zeus was the king of the gods who intervenes in dispute between gods and also men. He also has the power to make other gods do what he pleases. In his role in odyssey, he sent Hermes to order calypso to release Odysseus to return to Ithaca.
